Heres the Deal, Is it a Good Processor?
yes. It will handle everything Intel can do just fine
Will it Benchmark better?
Not at this time, but it is a new architecture and I am sure there will be something foudn that it specifically excels at, just doubt it will be 3dmark
Is it Better or Worse than Similar Priced Intel?
Hard to answer - as you say, Inexpensive, Fast Enough in real world. But what I find that makes the Bulldozer Lose is the amount of power it uses.
Pretty insane if you ask me.
By this time people should be able to understand that in Games your processor wont make or break the ability to play it. as long as you are sitting with a quad core your fine. Your game will run not better or worse than.
I understand why people can think that Intel Fanboys are just saying its a terribad processor - but I dont think this to be a case of Fanboyism or trolling.
People have a hard time letting go. I was AMD since k6 - Socket A - 939 . In those days AMD ran faster and hotter and seemed to run Games slightly better than intel - this of course, I doubt, was ever actually proven - but AMD Users sure held onto that idea for ever.
Problem is they dont want to let go the fact that AMD is just not currently the BEST processor on teh market. Still GOOD processors, but not the best
and the reasons are for me mostly due to the wacked out Power consumption, and the Fact that 8 cores is pointless in a game
Just get a quad core, forget this Bulldozer
Get AMD or Intel Quad core, any flavor and overclock it and be happy =)
No, AMD BD cannot handle everything Intel can do fine such as multi-GPU gaming.

There are CPU-dependent games such as Skyrim and Starcraft where BD is significantly slower than Intel.

This whole "any quad will do" theory is false.

We are not saying Bulldozer is garbage. What we are saying is that Bulldozer is simply not the best choice. You can compare that to your friend's PC.

I know sandybrifge is the best out there right now. Maybe i will just saved up same extra money and go for the 2500k

Umm, You can put two HD 6790's / GTX 550 Ti's together in a BD system and get good performance.

And the FX-4100 is miles ahead of the i3 alternative. Seeing as the i3 is not overclockable to any significant degree, and the FX-4100 can do 4.2Ghz on the crap stock cooler. Put $25 into an ok 120mm HSF and it will hit ~4.6ghz almost guaranteed.

FX-4100 vs Ph II 960T is a bit blurrier, as there is the prospect of unlocking. Also assuming 960T is still available in a few months.

Yes, when overclocked. If overclock is not an option well, too bad.

There are people here who don't overclock, despite this is an overclock.net.

I really wonder why would you recommend 6790? 6790 uses 6870 PCB, consume the same amount of power as 6870, but perform less than 6850? I get 6930 where the gap between 6870 and 6950 is quite large but the gap between 6770 and 6850 is not as large as the former one. A 6770 CF will attain 6870 level at stock. To me it is either 6770 or 6850.

Also people should aim for GTX 460 instead of 550 Ti, for GTX 460 scales much better than 550 Ti under SLI. GTX 460 can also been found at a much cheaper price.

The 6790s are low-end cards, unimpressive.

To overclock the FX-4100 it will cost more for the motherboard and probably a cooler, in which case the Intel platform could afford an i5 for a similar price. No degree of overclocking will make the FX-4100 catch up to the i5.

for someone who cant help but reply to every member of the so called "OCN AMD hater's club" in every BD thread to vehemently defend at all costs ,you sure are playing the victim well.
it ALWAYS takes two sides to destroy a thread, and you my friend are one of those sides, just use the ignore button(but then you wont have your fun) rolleyes.gif

Well it is true that OCN has a great deal of users that hate AMD, given all the raging fanboyism and anti_AMD posts that have gone on here since and well before BD released. There are always 2 sides to the argument and my side is the position of leave the people who own, want to tweak and use BD the way they want to free of stupid people with stupid comments.
There are some users who would just like to point out the obvious: Intel has superior offerings and even the old Phenom II are better bargains.

Maybe you should take a long hard look in the mirror considering many of those critical of BD also own AMD video cards.

Just performance ballparks, not really direct card recommendations. Also wanted to keep it to relatively up to date cards as GTX 460 1gb stock may be depleted by the time he buys his system.
