CNC Generals Zero Hour "serious error" problem - Page 2

Srry, didn't read the whole thread. I remember going through this same thing before.

Generals doesn't work on Windows 7 because it can't access some certain text file or something. I remember having to create a settings file just for generals... let me look into it. Read this thread for now

Found it!
http://forums.cncnz.com/topic/12319-how-to-play-generals-zero-hour-in-windows-7-x64/

I had the same problem: generals would run on my old P4/ Radon 9800 pro XP machine but not on my sig rig. It's just Windows 7.

Off topic:
Best generals mod ever

Thanks for reminding me. I'm gonna go play it now.

Both my rig and laptop are Win 7 64bit, but it doesn't work on my rig, while it works on my laptop.

And the game crashes at startup, the splash image shows, followed by the serious error message.

And i tried the instructions on that website, it still showed the error message.

Yup, that's the same error message. Did you follow the guide in my other post and run it as an admin?

Yes, i made the shortcut in desktop, set compatibility mode to XP Sp3, and ran as admin, still kept getting the error message.

EDIT: I followed both OPs and rtsking's instructions, still didn't work.

All i've got atm is an old copy of CNC Zero hour, and i have no idea where i put my TFD disc, so can't do a fresh install till i've bought it again.

Can't install gentool unfortunately, but propably would work as some people have tried it and got positive results.

You shouldn't use the first decade, just use generals and zero hour. Did you install the patch? And why can't you use gentool?

Hmm, this is odd. You can try disabling UAC temporarily and re-installing generals. Installing a mod like remix or contra may actually help.

Other than that, IDK. But I'm determined to get you playing generals somehow: that game is too awesome not to work.
