If you are unhappy with your 6990, do it.
If you are the type of person who needs to have the best, do it.

Otherwise don't.

Yeah I think since you have the budget for the expensive video cards, try a nicer monitor first, your going to loose more than the cost of a monitor reselling the 6990 I imagine. Might as well put the card to use too. You can try 120Hz if you have the budget for an expensive monitor, some have said gameplay is smoother but I havent played on one. Im happy with my 1080 60hz.

If you insist on keeping your monitor and selling the 6990 even a gtx570 does great on bf3 on 1080 for me (ultra) most levels my minimum is 60fps except the kirkland pack, that one taxes it and I have seen low 40's but my averages are always 60-72fps using frapps monitoring feature. On your setup you would have even higher numbers. Or you can even go cheaper and get a 560ti probably and play ultra on your current monitors resolution, the new 560ti 448core overclocked do as good as a 570gtx too.

Refresh rates. 60hz monitors "blink" 60 times a second...120hz "blink" 120 times a second...in lay mans terms. (that's why when viewing video of someone video taping, you'll see monitors blinking strangely) 120hz has advantages of 3d and "smoother" looking visuals, likely less screen tearing? (not sure) given you're running the game at atleast 120 FPS. I've never used one personally, my neighbor raves about his though and swears by it.

+1

best alternative is to get a better monitor.... you be wasting your money even with a GTX 580 or 7970. With equipment like that no reason for a monitor at that resolution.

a 6990 should be more than enough to max anything coming out until dx12. i see no reason to upgrade.
