Stay away from crossfire (and SLI), you don't want to rely on AMD/Nvidia to make any of your games work. Notice this is coming from people with crossfire setups from various generations. A year or two from now, AMD will drop CFX support for my 6850s, and I'll be dead in the water, but people with 6970s or even 5870s will still be going strong. Waiting for Skyrim drivers wasn't fun either...

Also, I've been through a bad card before. It's not necessarily your card: trust me.

Yep, I agree. I bought this card because it was a steal. I got it for like $206 with no shipping I believe, a year prior it was +$300. Of course, being crossfire I'd figure it'd do nothing but raise my performance in all games and it'd be a blast, nope, absolutely not. It's nothing but problems and headaches. No driver release or profile will ever save the horrendous 5xxx series crossfire. Biggest wasted investment I have made into my computer. I can't play games when they come out if there's poor scaling, I have to disable my second card. You know how demeaning that is? Here, let me spend $200+ on something only for it to be turned off for a few weeks every time a new game comes out.

Ridiculous, I can't wait to sell my 5850s and get a powerful single card.

My SLI experience has been buttery smooth. Nothing different than any single card setups I've used in the past... Friend has 2x 260s (216) and his SLi experience has also been super smooth even though it relies on the SLI hack (790fx mobo)

Me too, I had SLI 260s, 460's and had benched with 580s. But since I moved from 1366 I got a sounds card and was never a fan of the high top card temps when there is no space between the cards.

What games do you play? Big titles like BF3 and Benchmarking titles like Metro always work, but it's the smaller games that always bug out.

SLI does have that nice dual card antialiasing mode though... wonder if my cards will ever get that.

Not much besides big games tax the newer cards enough to notice. Even DX:HR played like butter while other people were having tons of trouble with it. Same with RAGE.

Some advice for you, just because someone is not running CFX right now does not mean they have never run it before. I have run crossfire in the 4800 series with two 4850s then later two 4890s, as well as building a computer for a friend to run two 6970s who has since had no problems whatsoever, i even game on his rig occasionally when i am over there, that was an upgrade from dual GTX 280s that he had, which had no problems either.
The only series of cards that have seemed to have CFX problems no matter what were the 5800s.

I think the CFX issue is moot for me, I have no desire to drop a grand or take out my sound card.

Now im wondering what time NewEgg will put its stock up so I don't get hosed.

Oh. If you want the best single PCIe card then get a double card. Ride the 260 until the 7990 drops (March?) or hop on a 590. thumb.gif
