Help with my PERC 5i

Thread Starter
So I recently got my Homeserver up and running. I just put in the PERC 5/i card and 4x1TB drives for a raid 5 array. When I boot the computer with the PERC card in, I get past the boot picture, but I then get left at a screen with a blinking _. The screen does not accept input from what I have tried. What is it doing, is it formatting the drives?

Do you get to the screen that says "CTRL+R" to configure? Did you create a virtual disk in the PERC 5/i bios?

Have you tried flashing the firmware on it? Tried a different PCI slot? Tried booting to the PERC bios without any of the drives plugged in?

you're not going to be able to flash firmware or do anything with it until you can get it to boot up properly.

the PERC raid cards were designed to be used in Dell's servers, which have a onboard system management controller. without that, the PERC controller usually doesn't work properly in non-server motherboards. to get around this, you will probably need to block out the SMBus lines, I believe they are pins B5 and B6, but do your own search online or check out the PERC thread. When I've done this in the past, I just used tape. Try this before you do anything else...
