  2. I didn't realize how little PCI-E lanes the Sandy Bridge processors have, and I don't think tri-fire 7970's will be possible? I'll have to stick to a crossfire combination.
Opinions and/or suggestions are welcome.

tri-fire actually isn't an issue on SBbecause of the NF200 chips... they do increaselatency slightly, hoverer they very successfully add PCI lanes... also remember that with PCI 3.0 X8 connectivity has the Same speed as x16 on PCI 2.0...I don't see a problem with tri-fire on SB

Oh wow, I'm an idiot. I thought the NF200 was exclusive to Nvidia chips! Thanks for the clarification eskamobob. Sending you some rep! Tri-fire is still a go!

Yes, NF200 boards will accommodate 3-Way/Tri-Fire, but check to make sure your SB board has it, as not all (very few actually) do. The ASRock Extreme 7 does, but I don't think the Fatality does.

You should also know that the nf200 doesn't support pci-e 3.0, nor does the 2500k :/

On the PCIe 3.0, don't worry about that. The 7970 can't saturate PCIe 2.1 or even 2.0. So not supporting PCIe 3.0 isn't a problem.
