i have heard that they have gotten better, but i havnt used them since 775 days cause of that experience (and i have always loved asus and evga anyways)... plz dont think im bashing them, just stating my experience smile.gif... same reason i would try a DFI board if i found one recently (those were the highest RAM ans FSB clocks i have ever seen smile.gif)

Oh I don't think you're bashing asrock and to be honest some their old boards deserve it. But they've come a long way since and their quality nowadays is as good as asus and gigabyte's.
I was quite suspicious when I got my first 1155 asrock board as I knew their history but luckily I was positively surprised, and only reason I'd switch to another manufacturer is an orange-black mobo. And gigabyte will probably have 'em when the new sockets for Ivy come out, so we'll see.
Oh, this is first time I've heard of DFI, gotta check them out.

they were great back in the 775 days but all they make now are industrial boards... their p45 and x48 "lanparty" boards were truly amazing... they are kinda lost in the wake of the UD3P, but IMO are just as good... the overclocked CPUs decently well, and weren't too good at GPUs, but 3/4 of the ones i have used (and most were brand new so we didnt know first) went well over 500 FSB... they could also push RAM very high, but what was impressive was how easily they did it... PC2-5300 running at 1066 was my favorite tongue.gif... the highest we could get it on the p5Q (another generaly accepted great FSB and RAM OCing board) was around 850 smile.gif

1/4/2012 Update:

I was able to return the 2500K and Fatal1ty at Microcenter without any problems, I was just sure to let them know there was nothing wrong with the products and it was my mistake. I must say, I am always pleasantly surprised at the hospitality customer service reps there have. After some discussion with other ASRock Extreme9 owners to see how they've liked the board, I decided to go ahead and purchase it as it was a good $120 cheaper than the RIVE. The throttling issues seem to have been resolved with the latest BIOS update according to one of them.

Some additional parts that have arrived:

  • Crucial M4 SSD
  • ADATA 8GB 2000mhz RAM
  • 2 x Hitachi 2TB Deskstar HDD

I will get pictures soon. I am going to hold off on purchasing the processor until the release of the C2 3960X on the 20th. I am doing a lot of virtualization for work and certs on my box at the moment, so vt-D is something I want to play with.

Anyhow, things will be a bit slow for the next week or so as we are packing and moving all week into our new home. I did manage to work on a little part of the build beforehand, assembling the Danger Den bay reservoir with one of the 655 pumps:
