Don't take it personal, I'm not saying what you have listed is a bad setup because personally, I want that board. All I'm saying, if it was me and knowing I wasn't looking to upgrade anywhere in the next couple of years or bothering with OCing, the i5 combo I chose would be mychoice as you wouldn't even need to bother to upgrade later...its a one shot deal. It'll provide good performance now and continue to provide good performance for years to come without worry about the dual core lacking performance compared to the quad in many games..You'd also see fewer FPS drops with a quad in heavy graphical situations (especially in MMO's where there's 100's of people in towns, etc). As for ram, you'd literally not see any difference, the i5 would outshine the i3 in pretty much every game. He mentioned "Blizzard" games, so I can only assume WoW and the like, which is more CPU intensive than GPU when it comes to 25 main raids and in towns, etc. You see it out perform in this game in the chart very clearly.

Nothing personal just friendly debating. Blizzard games use 2 cores.. Plus the i3 runs like a quad core. I saw 3 games on the anandchart and that was at resolutions below 1080p and Left4Dead is a terrible comparison.

Also his dad worked hard for 300 dollars. Might as well get the best combo with the budget at mind. If he gets the asrock then he is set for 2-3 years because he can just upgrade to ivy with a simple swap...

Money's not actually an issue at all, he could easily jump to Ivy as soon as it comes out if he pleases. He just doesn't know much about computer stuff and this is what my mom wants to do for Christmas and the budget she's set for it. After this, it's up to him if he ever wants to change anything. biggrin.gif

In that case, set him up with the 2500k asrock gen3 extreme3 and explain to the mother what's up. It's better to spend the extra 100 now rather than deal with the stuff later and have to mess with selling the i3 to recoup some of the losses. Make it a merry xmas, not a mediocre one biggrin.gif Ol' dad deserves the goods thumb.gif

It does, it doesn't, who knows. The 2400 still kills the i3 2100 in it and other games regardless and that's what I do know...That fact is not debatable. thumb.gif I say we call it the devil's works and call it a day tongue.gif

Youve been reading too many pointless synthetic benchmarks that don't give details of what was used. Even in a demanding game like crysis they tied.... I even gave u detailed benchmarks showing they are super close to each other in CPU demanding games. Ie: bf3 and metro. Something is wrong with that benchmark... even a blizzard employ states it only uses 2 cores and barely takes advantage of the 3rd one. plus those are at lower resolutions than 1080p... and 6 cores gets less fps than 5 cores on a 980x? but the 1100t gets more fps when using 6 cores? rolleyes.gif? lol... sure call it the devils work. hahaha. Even a guy with i5 570 at 4.0 and 6870 gets 30 fps in Dalaran city...
