Need help with Overclocking failure

Thread Starter
I recently got an "Overclocking failure" message, then I rebooted and the system was fine. A few days later I went to turn on the rig and it wouldn't POST just a black screen and I could hear the fans running. CTRL+ALT+Del didn't work, reset button on my case didn't either, I killed the PSU and tried to let it rePOST but I still had the same issue. The only fix for it was to crack open the case and clear the CMOS with the jumper. Now i'm running at stock speed and I haven't tried to OC since. (I was running @ 3.72 and my CPU temp never got over 51° even under full load)

I'd like to see if I can get some feedback, does that sound like the CPU or the Northbridge on the MOBO?

I am going to being picking up a new CPU after X-Mas and I want to make sure that it's not the mobo crapping out on me.

Well its hard to say exactly what the issue was but your motherboard supports over clocking safety features. This way if you clock something too high it will protect itself and not post until you reset it via cmos as you have done. Something was not stable and I can not tell you unless you let me know what settings you had to get that overclock. It could be too little voltage, too much too high cpu frequency, ram multiplier too high, and many other issues. usually when it happens to me on an overclocking binge it is related to cpu frequency too high (i dont have a unlocked multiplier) so when I try to bring my "fsb" past around 282 i can not apply enough voltage to satisfy the beast. Anyways good luck and be careful because that warning isnt something to joke around with if you dont know exactly what u are doing.

I'm betting on RAM issues. Did yo manually lower the memory clock before increasing the FSB?
