Well if you plan to SLI then i don't suggest you get the 448 core because they might be hard to find later in the future.

if i were you i'd wait for next-gen cards to be released first. if you have to purchase now a 6970 would be a good choice with its 2gb of ram. you can also look into aftermarket-cooled 6950's that can reach 6970 levels through overclocking, and some can even have 6970 shaders unlocked, too.

You cannot use non-reference models to turn into a 6970 (ex: the twin frozer II). you need a reference model 6950

Much better to just get a 6970

Hey Ice cold. I get that.

The 5 I listed though are all 6950 2GB twin frozr cards (except 2). My questions is why is one better than the others. I think I'd like to go with what PureBlackFire said and get an unlockable 6950 2gb card. I just got confused when I searched tiger direct and got 5 choices, just not sure which of those would be the best one to go for.

There is next to no chance of "bricking" it. The sapphire 6950 I linked comes with the 6970 bios already loaded on positon 2. Just move the dual bios switch to position 2. It has a dual bios option for this very reason. The facts on the ground are the best value or best use of $350 are NOT the gpu's that actually cost $350. With the 69xx being the same thing (with a software lock put on the 6950 2gb) and the new 448 core 560ti having equal performance to a 570 and why not.

wrong. it's well known the twin frozr III unlocks to a 6970. 2 twin frozr 2 models do also. there really is no risk in this. I even linked to a card that comes with the bios on it.

Hey, you seem to know your stuff PureBlackFire. Sounds like the sapphire 6950 would be the way to go. So I can switch it to 6970 and then overclock on top of that, correct?

question.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=754336

Is that the same card you linked? I noticed on newegg.com it says 100312-3L and the tiger direct one says 100312-3SR

no risk? are you kidding? bricking the card means IT DOESNT WORK.

The only reason that the MSI TFIII cards can unlock to a 6970 is because MSI created a custom BIOS for the GPU that allows you to unlock the shaders given the custom PCB setup.

reference design cards are completely proven to work around the board.

EITHER WAY - I still think that the 8% gain is not work the risk. buy the card you want. no need to flash anything.
