P-2 965 BE liquid cooled temps and overclock

post #1 of 18
Thread Starter
Hey guys -

I recently built a new rig using the following components:

Gigabyte 880GA - UD3H Mobo
Phenom II X4 965 BE (3.4ghz 125w)
Gskill 4x4gb Ram
Custom liquid cooling (Swiftech 2x120 rad, pump, res)
Radeon 5770 1gb etc.

Im currently running at 4.025ghz, 17.5x with bus of 230 and HT at 2070.
Vcore is at 1.52

When running the blender on Prime95, temps at full load are hovering between 42-45c. Idle temps are 25-28c.

I want to keep pushing this thing. What do you guys recommend as far as settings? I've read the guide, and played around with everything for quite some time. How much further can I push it?

I hit 4.2ghz and ran Prime95 for 2 hours, then I got BSOD. I'm happy with 4ghz, but I need more. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds about right. 1.5 maybe a tad high. I thought I had someone tell me to not push it past 1.5v, BUT someone else has done more just like you tonight. I am beginning to wonder if I'm wrong.

But congrats

Well, once the bulldozers get ironed out, ill be upgrading. So I'll run this CPU at 1.57 and see how long it lasts. This gigabyte board seems to up the stock voltage a bit high anyways vs. the asus I had. I had 4.3 running for 2 hours on prime and then it restarted even though temps were still hanging around 44c. I'll play around with some more numbers and see if I can get 4.3 stable. If you or anyone else has any ideas on adjustment, I'm all ears. I appreciate the input!

But congrats

Well you have to factor his temps into it. @4.2ghz and 1.57 volts @ 44C under load he can probably run for years just fine (not under a full load, though.) I would think that 1.5 volts and 55C is just a bad degradation wise. @ OP: could you post some pics of your rig? I'm probably going to get an even better setup this Christmas, so I want to make sure my temps are as good as or better than yours. thumb.gif

It's a mess right now, due to some reconfiguring, but it works!

P2 = Pentium 2

Ph 2 = Phenom II

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But your better off just calling it a 965. We all know what you are referring to. We know you aren't talking about the Pentium 965 EE.
