in your first screen, set all power imits/duration to auto. this feature is broken in asus/asrock x79 boards.
anything but auto will throttle back your cpu to stocks clocks.
this is not like z68 or z77 sadly

so that's short duration power limit, long duration power limit, long duration maintained & core current limit should all be auto?

I seem to be sitting pretty at 48x with LLC on high, which gives me 1.400V at load (might try LLC on medium to see if it can load with .02V less).

I tried bumping up to 49x. It froze on the Win7 loading screen once the logo was at full size (there was no BSOD though, just sat there frozen). I figured this means it needs more volts, so I bumped LLC from high to ultra high. It started to load fine, but as soon as the logo flashed the computer shut down and after 2-3 seconds started back up.

Pretty sure it's not an issue of Vcore voltage (although I could be wrong), so what's the next step?

between 4.8 and 4.9 is much bigger difference in voltage than between 4.7 and 4.8, so i will go with voltage up -> probably up to 1.45

I understand that, but that doesn't answer my question regarding why it froze on loading with LLC on High versus shutting down and restarting with LLC on Ultra High. Putting it on Ultra High would give it more volts on load, which is needed given that it froze before while loading. But then why would it shutdown and restart?

Guys

What is your
  • OC
  • Vcore
  • VCCSA
  • VTT
  • CPU PLL

Mine
  • OC : 4.7 Ghz
  • Vcore 1.386v
  • VCCSA 1.14v (1.176v load)
  • VTT 1.15v
  • CPU PLL 1.85v

I am trying to figure out the best PLL and what does it affect, I wasted a lot of time on this on the x58 Boards. Seems like I am obcessed with this one too.

I think a lower PLL brings instability, I think the best is between 1.78v and 1.9v on x79

My i7 930 (x58) was having a PLL of 1.55v at 4.3Ghz

Presumable something wrong with Bios mine also failed to bsod properly just froze on the blue screen....... BTW what are your idling temp at 4.8 i'm at 4.8 also biggrin.gif

Edit woops misread your first post it's meant to restart it self after a bsod crash you should get a blue screen however....

I'm glad I followed my hunch that something was wrong and decided to investigate. While it was a massive pain to drain the loop and disassemble everything, as it turns out it was borderline necessary.

I'm surprised it didn't burn up once I started to run tests on it. Guess it goes to show that I've got an effective cooling setup. The funny part is when I was done with the build, I kept thinking I had put TOO MUCH thermal paste which would have explained my abnormal temps. So to see that less than 50% of the lid was covered was a shock. I cleaned it up and put a nice big X of paste on it.
