Weird Asrock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 Issue

Thread Starter
I'm not sure if this is exactly a motherboard issue, but I'm having the weirdest thing happen. Up to this point, I've been using an old PS2 mouse and keyboard with my new build until I could spare some cash on a new setup. So recently I purchased the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 and X5, which were setup perfectly fine in Windows and were fully functional. However, when I reboot the computer with the mouse plugged in, I get stuck in the BIOS splash screen. If I unplug the mouse, I can get to Windows and the mouse continues to work once I plug it back in. I'm trying to figure out why if my mouse is plugged in from the start, it prevents me from getting into Windows. Any ideas?

It's the BIOS, I can't remember which one it was exactly (probably the rev you're running lol) but it has some issue's with some of the keyboards and mouse. I would either revert back to an older BIOS or check with Asrock website whether or not there is an updated BIOS rev that rectifies the problem.

Hope that helps.

EDIT:

What BIOS rev are you running? I would recommend updating the BIOS if you haven't already done so. Asrock are /have continuously worked with member's to try and get support for some of the mouse and keyboards. Here's an example: http://forums.tweaktown.com/asrock/45793-p67-extreme4-gen3-uefi-mouse-issue-2.html

LIke I mentioned try updating the BIOS and please report back. thumb.gif

Download BIOS from here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=P67%20Extreme4%20Gen3&o=BIOS

If you already have the latest version, please report back and let us know.

Yeah, after playing around with the front and back USB ports, it seems to be a BIOS issue. So on the Asrock website, there are only two versions - 1.10 and 1.00. I have the latest, so will going to the first revision really fix my mouse issue? Also, would I be losing anything by downgrading?

I'm not really sure about losing anything by downgrading, not really familiar with that motherboard, you could try asking here: http://www.overclock.net/intel-motherboards/912219-official-asrock-p67-discussion-owners-club.html

You could try these (support for other mouse and keyboards):

Alternatively you could try contacting here over at Tweaktown, she might be able to send you a Beta BIOS with the support for your keyboard and mouse.

Sorry I can't do much to help here but the best thing would be to contact her or downgrade the BIOS to 1.00.

Good luck thumb.gif

The only thing going to the 1.0 bios will do is fix the mouse issue. They also have a Beta bios out that does the same thing... most of the Extreme 4 Gen 3's are shipping with the 1.1 or the 1.05 bios, which ahs the USB mouse/keyboard issue. It is a known issue, if you take a look at the P67 Asrock thread.
