I have come to the conclusion based on all the replies that Id be going for the following system.
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T with (Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro)
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3
Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz
Since this is already a 6 core cpu like you guys have said it seems a safer option to roll with this incase the 960t cant be unlocked. Can this processor however with that cooling fan be overclocked to even close to 4mhz?
Thanks for the last question. Once I get the reply I will place the order for delivery on 29th.

Hmm...it may.

Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X
8GB Corsair Vengeance Black
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 960T

That is at my budget cap actually. Do I really need an aftermarket cooler to get this cpu to unlock or even close to 3.8Mhz?

Im breaking my balls here lol.

If it does im placing my order right now.

Dude like i advised you on the mobo im telling you the same about the processor. I think you should stick with the 960t as the price it comes at is cheaper than the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T. Yes,it is a gamble but im sure the processor will unlock and if your looking forward to mainly maxing out games and not any encoding and stuff, let me tell you there is no game on the planet that uses more than four cores, till now i haven't come across any game that uses 100% cpu usage of a quad core. In fact because of dx11 most of the stress and load of the game is transferred to the gpu and not cpu. In all honesty a dual core in most recent games scores as well as a quad core in terms of fps,the quad core gets maybe a few fps more than the dual core. No i am not encouraging you to downgrade and get a dual core but i seriously think that the quad core will be more than sufficient for your gaming needs.

You will need an aftermarket cooler to overclock, however you will not need one to unlock. If you wish to overclock after unlocking, you will need an aftermarket cooler.

Final Report. I placed my order with AriaPC for the following parts and found them to be cheaper then Scan.co.uk

Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X
8GB Corsair Vengeance Black LP (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 960T Black Edition
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

was just under £295. I will just pick up a decent aftermarket fan from maplins at some point. I dont think I will bother with the core unlocking as someone suggested games dont really use all 6 cores currently. I will aim for an overclock to about 3.7Mhz on stock at first and push to 4Mhz with a decent aftermarket cooler.

Thank you guys for all the advice you gave me and for being patient with me.

Have a great new year!!!

Nice choice.

Do yourself a favor and pick up something like this
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cooling/CPU+Coolers/Coolermaster+Hyper+TX3+CPU+Cooler+?productId=39657

The stock cooler that comes with the 960T is the small stock aluminum one, imo the only thing it´s good for is melting down to make a proper cooler.
