Whats Virtu?

Hey guys,

What exactly is Lucid Virtu? I know it has something to do with integrated graphics...Im basically wondering because I will be building a rig with an i5 2500k and a Z68 mobo, and I'm wondering is it possible to use my rig without a graphics card? I will be waiting until Jan. 9th for the AMD 7970, so yeah.

afaik all of the 1155 motherboards have some sort of integrated graphics adapter, since its built into the processor.

LucidLogix Virtu allows you to use Quicksync (which is dependant on the internal graphics chip) while an add-on Graphics card is intsalled

P67 does not include on board graphics. H67 and Z68 do. Q67 does as well, but that is less likely to be mentioned on a site like this.

If you have anything that is not a P67, you can run with just onboard graphics if you wish. Virtu is only used when you have a PCI-e card installed. It allows you to use the onboard GPU of your Sandy Bridge to encode. You can not use it in conjunction with your video card to do something like increase framerate in games.

^^^^ what he said

Yes you can use on-board graphics, Vitru doesn't have anything to do with whether you can or cant, as long as you get a board that has its own video output (vga/dvi plug on the I/O panel) which would be any H-Z-Q67 motherboard

I was going to buy an Asrock Extreme3 Gen3 board, and when I looked at the specs, I noticed that there is no Onboard Video Chipset...does that mean I can use my rig even though its z68?
1155 motherboards that support on-board graphics output dont show any because the graphics chip is in the processor itself. look at the rear I/O panel. if it has a VGA (blue D-Sub 15 connector) or DVI (white connector) then you will be fine.
