RX240 or EX240 radiator?

Thread Starter
I'm looking to expand my cooling loop (Cpu only) to have an external 240 rad.. and I'm looking at getting either the Rx240 or the Ex240, but I dont actually have either, so I have no idea which is better
(and yes, i know 2 240 rads in a cpu only loop is a bit excessive biggrin.gif )

Also, I'm having trouble getting my cpu block to seat very well, and I think it has something to do with the fact that I don't use a backplate since the screws wont fit, would it be a good idea to just drill the holes out wider?

edit: also merry Christmas everybody biggrin.gif

Wait a minute, are you running your system without a backplate? If your block isn't fitting its probably the wrong one, I can't help without seeing some pictures.

I highly suggest getting a back-plate and making sure your block is the right one.. Don't go drilling into your motherboard or your block... :S

I am running it without a backplate, but I have pretty big nylon washers between the screw heads and the motherboard to spread out the force a bit
It's the right block, its just that the screws that came with the kit wont fit through the hole in the backplate

I have a backplate, I'm just wondering if it would be a bad idea to drill out the holes in it, so the screws will fit into it
I would never drill a hole in my motherboard lol

You need to contact the manufacturer and get the right screws and such, I wouldn't drill anything! If it came with threads then there is a reason for them.

concerning the radiators though, which one would work better? Size isnt really an issue, though I dont want to use a 360, because it would just be awkward looking as an external

The EX series combines the low profile design of our RS series radiators with the high performance of the RX series. This feat has been possible due to several manufacturing advances including, split fins, improved soldering techniques, and welded seam tubes. The EX series has been designed and optimised for low speed fans, so it can offer high performance cooling at very low noise levels.

i would go with the EX240 rad as ilike the low/thinner profile like the RS series and how it matches performance off the bigger RX series rads. can be made to be more quite rather than roar like a V8 super car smile.gif

I am leaning towards the ex... I've just always known the rx240 to be top of the line, and I cant find a comparison of them anywhere lol

I can deal with sound, I just want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck biggrin.gif

have alook here
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=18731&cPath=919#myshopping&utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=System+Cooling&utm_term=XSPC+EX240+Radiator

and well these aussie prices

http://www.myshopping.com.au/ZM--1218755116_XSPC_EX240_Radiator

you will see the ex is cheaper than the rx but matches in performance, though performance and price will be proportional to your fans smile.gif
