first, which disk did you burn and boot with?

hopefully the Gentoo 2006.1 LiveCD
or Gentoo 2006.1 LiveDVD

boot with this, and you should eventually come to a fully operational gentoo desktop (gnome)

there are two installer icons at the bottom right

go ahead and use the graphical installer.

pretty self explanitory.

there are other ways to install, but this is probably the easiest.

The traditional way to install it is detailed here:

And GRAPHICAL INSTALL? I gotta try gentoo again now...
You could wimp out and do the graphical install. Definitely.

When I first got it running ~15 months ago it was my 6th attempt over a period of about 10 months. Manual install - once you get it working you learn a LOT. I had always been just typing in what looked like '%LWd9@,f9C' and hitting enter, but now I know the install up and down...takes but a couple hours to get it good for an overnight emerge of everything.

If you just want to try it out, I'd try the graphical install - good luck, when I used it long ago it didn't work and I haven't used it since...probably works fine now. Be SURE to take advantage of the gentoo community - if you have ANY problem just post it in the forums.gentoo.org and someone will probably help you. You can post here too, but again this isn't a gentoo forum so we won't know *as* much lol. Good luck...
