2600k too hot?

Thread Starter
Today I recieved my 2600k. I overclocked it to 4.7ghz and the voltage to about 1.41.

I am concerned because it was between 85-95 degrees. I am using the corsair a70, which is slightly better than a hyper 212+. I think this is a bit too toasty. What do you think?

I lowered voltage to 1.4, it seems stable so far (prime95 running small fft now) but it is still very hot.

Of course it will be hot. the voltages are off the roof for a air cooler. I have a H80 and only have it at 1.355v. Bring it down and be happy with a 4.5Ghz or get a W/C loop.

I lowered to 4.6ghz and 1.345 volts, highest temp so far is 86 degrees. I think I should reinstall the cooler like the guy above said. Core 0 is 77 degrees but the rest are in the mid-low 80's

I had the same problem when I installed mine. It took a few tries of re-seating the cooler to get it stable. I'm using a Corsair H50 w/c. Also make sure you're getting just the right amount of paste on there, as too little or too much is bad and will cause the temps you're seeing as well. You seriously don't want to see temps over 85 degrees Celsius doing day to day user stuff.

What were your temps before and after reseating?

The first couple of times it wouldn't leave BIOS without blue-screening and the temps were starting at 80 degrees and climbing. After another re-seat, it finally sat at about 22 degrees Celsius at BIOS and ran beautifully. I waited about a month or so for the paste to "cure and set in" and went into the EUFI BIOS and set it to a default overclock setting @ roughly 4.4ghz. After a few more days I put it up to 4.8ghz and put it through a little stress testing. It still gets kinda hot at full load with prime95, hitting about 82 degrees C... but I rarely ever see it actually hit that kind of load running programs or games day to day so I knew it'd be a good overclock.
Oh... one more thing! It'll help (maybe a lot!) if you make sure your BIOS isn't keeping your CPU fan at low speed, and instead keep it at 90 to 100% full time. I had to do that with my H50 since the "fan speed" was actually not cooling the water in the radiator at stock settings.

No problems at all, just re-apply the TIM. Best method to do this is this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyXLu1Ms-q4

So just a tiny dot (the size of a small pea) in the middle of it. Put on the cooler (directly on the correct position, do not move the cooler again, fasten the cooler)

I played a lot of games at 5.0GHz/1.5V and used it 24/7 without BSODs with my 2600K
