Ram upgrade

Thread Starter
I currently have 6 GB Kingston Value RAM DDR3-1600 Tri-Kit at 9-9-9-24 stock

And I can upgrade them to G.Skill Ripjaws 12 GB DDR3-1333 Tri-kit at 7-7-7-21 stock.

But before I switch them I just got a question...

This probably is a nobrainer, but the 1600 and 1333 are confusing me, though the timings and amount of RAM are clearly better, will the difference in Mhz make a big difference or is it still a big upgrade? Or can I just push the Ripjaws higher?

Getting the hang of overclocking just the RAM keeps confusing me tongue.gif

could I be able to get G.Skill 16 GB DDR3-1333 Quad-Kit to work on my system? Or does it have to be multiple of 3GB?

uh... As long as the sizes for each ram match up there shouldn't be a problem. That could be 3x1GB or 3x8GB...

At this point you're just trading for higher density ram.

Ripjaws is great Ram for the price, but it's overclocking potential isn't that amazing (second worst RAM I have ever attempted to overclock). So don't count on being able to push it "anywhere". That being said, I have pushed the 1333 model to 1600 before, however it was only partially stable. As a rule of thumb, Timings > MHz

Thx!

Price isn't really "that important", which brand would I better get then if I want to push it? Or what is best overall RAM?

And lower timings > higher timings, right? Just to make sure tongue.gif

Have a look at Muskin RAM for overclocking abilities, but really unless your benching any1600Mhz RAM will be fine such as Munskin, G.Skill, Corsiar to name a few smile.gif

I linked the perfect kit for you above. Personally, I have had great success with Corsair Dominator GTs and I just bought some Mushkin Blackline for my next build.
