Clearly I must be crazy, because I'm pretty sure a have a 512GB one on the way. But I'd have to be crazy for that, right? biggrin.gif

Means I can finally replace the HDD in my laptop with one of my spares now though. thumb.gif

Sean has said a couple times now that you won't notice the difference in day to day use between this and a Marvell/Sandforce drive, and to get what's the best deal. Well, the 830 might not be the best deal, but I will maintain it's the best drive and it IS worth that extra 10-20 bucks, especially if you don't care about those relatively small differences shown in the benchmark programs. wink.gif
Edit; on the note of overprovisioning, I had thought Samsung automatically sets aside 7% of the drive's space so you don't have to, and that it's a small bonus to have control over it (not that you really need that, of course).
Edit 2; bobni added to the list. smile.gif

The info in Post #123 states the Samsung 830 does not automatically set aside 7% for overprovisioning. The definitive answer as to the benefits of over provisioning on this specific ssd can only be answered by someone with in depth knowledge pertaining to its firmware and function. One size fits all statements are not allways true.

I finally installed my 256GB drive last night. Did a fresh install of window 7 Ultimate. Did a few benchmarks and not as high a I had hoped. Wondering how others are in the 600 and 700 (Intel or AMD, SATA 3.0 or 6.0?). I did most of the tweaks in Sean's post besides the power settings since I don't like leaving my computer on when I am not at home. Thanks for the great post!

I did to test one before firmware update of the drive 448 then after 441. The board is Asus M4A79XTD EVO that has SATA 3.0. Need to do some more reading to figure out if I missed something.

You should easily be in the 600's. my 128GB scores 721. Make sure you are using the storage driver appropriate for you board.

I chose the Samsung 830 256GB version for my new gaming rig.thumb.gif Bootup is obviously faster, but I still need to run some benchmarks on some games that had long load times with my old RAID0 setup to see if there is any difference.
