That kind of annoying. I haven't used it yet just got my Samsung drives this week. I'm glad you linked that article. Its pretty interesting that Corsair drive looks nice actually after reading that article.

HELP!
Hi, I have a Samsung SSD830. I have bought it more than one year ago. Today I have installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology 11.7.0.1013 driver and "iata_cd.exe". When I have installed it, my PC has shut down and only when the desktop was shown, a windows told me that was installing the driver for Samsung SSD830. Is it normal? I would like to get the original driver of Samsung and not of Intel one. However if I go to My Computer/Device Management/Disk driver/ATA SAMSUNG SSD 830 SCSI Disk Device, the driver is of 06/21/2006 and v.6.1.7600.16385 with Digital signature of Microsoft Windows. Can I update that driver and replace it with a new driver? I'm not expert and I hope you can tell me where I have to to the download.
Thanks a lot for your precious news.

dont worry about anything, it is normal. And you are not using a intel driver for the SSD, it just redownloads the driver again after the SATA driver is installed to prevent corruption.

OK! Thanks for the info. Can you tell me if I can update the new driver for my Samsung 830? My driver is more than 1 year old.

idk if there are any other drivers than what windows gets for you. it is all automated.

Some very interesting numbers on the 840/840 Pro.

http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/3532/4/samsung-ssd-840--840-pro-review-every-model-tested-atto-disk-benchmark

Can someone explain what 4k writes actually mean in real world performance. I don't care for benchmarks and I won't be running any on my drive, other than the initial ones to make sure the drive is properly aligned and functioning.

The one problem I see with these TLC drives is how the drive drops in performance quickly, prior to TRIM or garbage collection. I hope this can be solved with firmware updates. I still haven't received my drive yet but I have found an 830 128 for the same price as the 840 I've ordered and considering sending the 840 back unopened.

I am sorry for asking (possibly) silly questions but after looking up reviews I wonder whether the slower flash and controller are going to hinder the drives performance once the drive starts filling up and slow it to a crawl.

I would highly recommend against running the Samsung Drive Optimizer if you have an 840pro formatted to GPT.

I'm pretty sure that was what was causing my problems.

I took a look at the logs for Samsung Magician and found tons of errors like this:

Not going to run any more benchmarks, but I'm not gonna mess with the samsung magician anymore either, not sure if it's windows 8 or that I'm formatted for GPT, but I'm pretty sure it's not fully optimized for the configuration I am running. I'll just let windows 8 do it's thing.

Okay, can someone give me a quick and clear answer in whether or not i should get the 830 OR the 840 (Non-pro)?
I don't care that much about the reliability issues of the 840 - i'm not going to write that amount of data that is required to make it go bad anyways..
They are exactly the same price in my country.

If they are the same price, I'd just go with the 830. Good established history, and performance wise, 830 and 840 trade blows and would be close enough that you couldn't tell the difference.
