[Official] Samsung SSD750/830/840/850 Owners Club - Page 138

Here is a screen shot of the standard 840 I ordered. The difference between a standard and Pro version is big enough for me to have bought this one. What I do think is important is that the drive performs better with the AMD SATA driver as opposed to the MSAHCI one.

With the MSAHCI drivers I get "could not open device physicaldrive1" errors.

In a week or two this SSD will go into my laptop because I will go travelling for a month and a half, thus the lower power usage of the TLC nand will be very useful then.

By summer I intend to replace this SSD with a 250GB one, if I can afford it because I also want to get a new CPU (that has been on my list since the release of Vishera) and a cooler. Anyway, for my first SSD I am very pleased with this thing, it boots up Torchlight within seconds and Opera with 60 tabs opens almost instantaneously. Those who said I would see no difference between this and an 830 128 were correct.

Your reads and writes seem really low, I assume the controller you have connected it to is not ideal because your requential read is much slower than mine and I have the regular TLC one.

I don't think so, i've attached it to intel controller, but anyway it does'nt matter to me for as long as my access time and score is way better, i'm happy with that.biggrin.gif

you have connected it to an intel port iaStorA gives that away since IIRC it is using the Intel AHCI Controller and iaStorA is its driver. your probably just connected it to a SATA 3Gb/s intel port and not a SATA 6Gb/s port, still a nice score tho smile.gif

What's an "ideal" total score for an SSD? You have a 100 more than me ... I'm wondering if there's any optimizations I could do [followed Sean's guide already]

I have a score of over 1000 on the 840 non pro @250gb. one of the tricks is to disable c-states and it should help your 4k read/writes a bit
post #1379 of 5733
I'm 90% sure C-states are already disabled but one sec

I personally wouldnt run with them off on an everyday basis and the difference isnt great usually. some drives will make a real jump on the 4k writes.

the big thing is to find which of the rst driver work the best if you are running an intel board, as the differences in them can be significant. I upgraded my bios to a firmware that has the newer 11.6 orom and my board seems to like it.

I havent ran the sammy drive as a slave to see if there is significant increases in speeds or bench scores over having it as the boot drive. for the money I spent on mine it seems the best value of the time as ssd's are trending upwards price wise lately
