Just got my 840PRO installed and cloned up from my old Intel X25M...benchmarks much better than the Intel yet looking at the #s, shouldn't my PRO #s be better than what they are?

It's plugged into my board's SATA3 port too so I'm a little confused.

My 840 Pro's score with the AS SSD Benchmark went from 992 to 1178 when I went from the msahci driver like you have to the iaStorA driver. My charts are in post #1877.

Also, is yours aligned properly?

Men,X58 dont have Intel sata 6gb/s,that is Marvell sata 6gb/s port .You could have 6gb/s speed if you order 2 x 128gb 840 and put them in raid 0 on Intel sata2.Now is late. Why dont you people read motherboard manual.

I have same board. You could do one more thing, but you will not gain better then 450mb/s.
Install Marvell new driver, read from post 27 to 31.

yeah that's right, X58 don't have SATA 3 6Gbps port as one of the reason I upgraded to X79 below are my result from Marvell port 6 Gbps and Intel 6Gbps.

max I could get with Marvell.

below are benchmark using AS SSD taken a week apart with quite consistent result,

Bought the 840 250gb non-pro today, did a clone of my Intel X25-M 120gb, 71GB of host writes so far. What is a POR Recovery Count, cause I've got 1 already which dropped my "Current" to 99. My X25 didn't drop any values for almost a year of usage and this drive is 2 hrs old?

It does bench much better than my Intel:

Did you get the drive on sale for $150 shipped?

I have 2 now. One I paid $170 with the usb to sata and 3.5 adapter before christmas and one I bought last week for $150 with same options.

First is in my Q6600 as my primary drive, second will be going into my laptop as my only drive.

I just bought a Samsung 840 250GB as an upgrade from my ForceGT 120GB. I didn't opt for the Pro because I'm really not worried about using TLC NAND, and I was convinced that I wouldn't notice any real world difference between the pro and the non-pro. I've been using the drive for a few weeks, starting from a fresh Win7 x64 Ulti install.

But...

I seem to be able to notice a slightly worsened bootup-time, which annoys me quite a bit. The icons in the tray come sneaking in from the side instead of popping up rapidly, as I'm used to from my GT. I've done quite a few hours of digging around the Internet to substantiate my suspition by looking at benchmarks, but the impression I get is that the 840 IS the faster drive allround, beating up the GT in almost all tests. Except fully compressible data write tests, of course.

Now, looking through old Anvil-benchmarks I've done myself, I see that my ForceGT WAS a bit faster at reading 4K randoms, which I really did NOT see coming (the 840 performing around 25 MB/s, 6.5k IOPS and the GT at 31.05 MB/s, 7.8k IOPS - both at 46% compression)
Of course there is are quite a few sources of error, so I'm not even sure if I can conclude anything from the numbers I have (diff. BIOS/UEFI version, diff. IRST version, diff. OC settings, diff. program versions, free space on the drives, OP etc.).

So my question is: Should I really be able to notice a difference at all, or is something else at play here?

This is something I would also like to know.

I did not, I paid $170 at Microcenter. I did a quick check today and Amazon/Newegg's current price seemed to be within $10 of what I could get it local for. Certain things I don't mind spending a few bucks more for, in case I need to do a quicker return.

No idea but I have 8 after 800GB writes.

Could be related to the SSD's cache and seems irrelevant.
