No Sean, regretfully, I found your thorough and outstanding guides when I was trying to find answers.

I appears I need to just take the leap and just start over completely.

One last concern was whether or not my relenting and letting the Win 7 install coerce me into deleting the 830 Parition possibly deleted some hidden Samsung partition with needed tools for the drive to function properly.

If I just have to start over again and follow your guides ....so be it.

Thanks for all the help you provide everyone.

Best Regards

AFAIK, there's no hidden partition on the sammy SSD for the magician tool to work. I would go with a secure erase with the tool provided in the magician software before doing the clean install. Have you tested the drives in another computer to see if magician recognizes them outside of that isolated system?

IIRC, the Magician software just reads S.M.A.R.T data....but I could be easily corrected if someone knows otherwise smile.gif.

Start the guide from the beginning and let us know what happens.

Hi Guys,

Hope you don't mind me butting in.

I recently got an Asus Rampage IV Extreme, with a 3930K installed. 16Gb RAM.

And, a Samsung 830 256GB.

It is connected to the SATA3 port, and my Samsung SSD Magician program also doesn't recognise it - it tells me no Samsung Brand SSD installed.

I have tried updating the driver manually in Win7 Ultimate, but no go. It insists the latest driver is installed already...

Weird.

Do you have the drive plugged in the Intel SATA port or the ASMedia?

I wish I could afford a 256gb SSD frown.gif.

This seems to be a recurring issue...*ponder*

I am at work at the moment, but I *think* I may have it in the asmedia ones. I will switch it to the intel ones tonight.

I swapped it from ASMedia to Intel. Works fine now.

Now off to figure out why the nVidia & D-Link DWA-556 drivers crashes windows 7.

Many Thanks!

Glad to hear smile.gif.

Install the drivers in safe mode to see what happens. You have some odd things going with your system, sir/ma'am.

Hi guys. I going to get 64gb 830 series in the next 2 months and use it with my new ASRock Ext4 Gen3 + i52500k. I have a few questions if you can give me your oppinion.
I'm going to use this SSD as system drive (Win7 64 + Truecrypt).

1. How much more/quicker degradation of drive can i expect considering I'll be using TC so I'm not even sure if TRIM will funkcion? Is someone here using SSD TC encrypted system?
2. Do you recommend avoiding using Marvell controller for this SSD. Problem is I need to run 2x320gb HDD RAID0 of the intel SATA controller and Marvell doesn't support RAID so I'm not sure how all this is going to function if connected to same (intel) controller and set to RAID mode. (in total I need to connect to this motherboard: 1xSSD, 1xDVD/RW, 1x 2tb hdd, 2x320gb hdd RAID0).
3. Can this SSD be accessed thrue Sharkoon USB 3.0 quickport dock for setting-up/updating firmware purposes?

thanks.

  1. IDK, I don't think so, but you do get lower speeds. TC is TrueCrypt right?
  2. Yes, the current Marvell controllers on mobos suck. With your new mobo you will have 6 Intel ports, 4 SATA 3GB/s and 2 SATA 6Gb/s. ou can put all your drives on it fine.
  3. If it is just a dock and it fits the drive it should work. As for updating the firmware, you may need to leave it connected to the Intel SATA ports to be detected and updated.
