What is your opinion on this subject, in my case for 64gb sasmung series 830 that I'm going to get soon?

one of the links I ran into:
http://www.condusiv.com/blog/post/2010/04/02/Do-you-still-need-HyperFast-if-you-have-TRIM.aspx

cheers.

I tried out Diskkeeper's free trial with HyperFast about two years ago and didn't notice any difference in performance, so I let it lapse and uninstalled without purchasing it. They also advertise active defragging and increased performance for mechanical drives, but I think if you defrag those every once in a while there isn't any major gain from the software.

Based on Sean's comments about TRIM, I feel like HyperFast isn't really necessary any more.

I guess you're right. I just wanted to see your inputs. I do use diskeeper but for current mech drives and I guess I'll continue to use it for them.
Does it really provide any better perf above native defrag I don't know really.

cheers.

I honestly don't know either. Diskkeeper could be doing something fantastic for drives, I simply didn't notice the difference and didn't want to pay for it, lol.

took my laptop which has my 64GB 830 in it to work today. went to go browse OCN on it during my lunch (tethering to my phone) and it woulntd boot. somehow the MBR/ Partition table on the drive got corrupted. i dont have any idea how. it had been sitting on my desk charging for the last 2 days and it was working just fine the previous time i used it.

That is a very odd occurance, update the firmware and perform a secure erase and clean install, hopefully whatever corrupted the system goes away after that.

So I have a 512gb 830 in its box still. I will get the rest of my parts by Monday or Tuesday to start my build. Would it be smart to hook it up to my current machine and check/update firmware?

Samsung's site has the latest Firmware from Jan'12 (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/MZ-7PC512D/AM) - I got my drive about a week ago. Think its worth firing up and checking?

I updated mine right after i installed my OS just because smile.gif. Just prep a usb update before you install your OS when the rest of your system arrives (Samsung's Magician software and i think the drive has to be plugged in for the software to recognize it).

you lucky dog. 512gb?! I so jelly i melt into the floor.
