No man ,just enjoy this beautiful technology.Last endurance report says 840 Pro is on 600tb and the number of reallocated sectors reported is 28.
28 reallocated sectors is nothing.

Just skipped to end of thread, so may have missed this , but has anyone used an ssd adapter to pcie slot with successful speed increases? And if so, what adapter cards have you used? I am thinking about putting my 840 pro into an adapter card, slip it into the pcie slot, and see if i can get slightly faster read/write and data transfer speeds. Just slap me if someone already addressed this...

Edit: may have put in wrong thread, please re-direct if so

Man I want to get rid of my 840 Non-Pro and upgrade to an Evo. Nobody is bidding for my auction listing frown.gif

Posting this from an old Dell Optiplex 745, I can really feel the speed of an SSD now. At home last night, installing Windows 8 and everything on the EVO, I didn't realize how quick everything was. Really makes you appreciate it.

Hey Guys, some guy from Holland here.

about 6 months ago I bought an ASRock 970 Extreme3 2.0 with an AMD FX8350+, this worked perfectly fine untill I bought an Intel 840 EVO 256GB.
I discovered on the Samsung Magician software that AHCI wasn't enabled, so I went to the BIOS and set it from IDE to AHCI. This gave me BSODS.
Also my PC freezes every 5 minutes for 10-20 seconds or so, like when i'm zooming out in Google Maps everything hangs completely. This continued for weeks without me solving the issues.

So yesterday I installed Windows 8 without succes (wrong cd), so I went for Windows 7 x64. First I set the BIOS to AHCI and now it stays that way, at least thats somewhat positive.

But now, when I try to use the computer, it runs very bad. The startup is rather slow, the desktop performs really slow and sometimes the PC gets stuck/freezes.

I am trying to look for the compatibility issue between my 840 EVO SSD and my AMD Motherboard ASRock 970 Extreme3 2.0. What should I install or edit? I already have found the following link but i'm not sure if it will fix my problem since AHCI is already enabled now : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/problems-changing-from-ide-to-ahci-in-windows-8/6ffe9fa6-84bd-4da1-b88d-620d1237bf9f

Motherboard has latest BIOS and the SSD has the latest Firmware

The SSD has been plugged into the SATA3_1 port on my motherboard with the black SATA cable that came with the SSD.

If anyone gives me the proper solution for this problem i'm having for months I am veeeeeery gratefull! Cause I am pretty happy of the performance from the SSD and I just want to get it working for a big LAN party next weekend smile.gif

Cheers thumb.gif

Windows is stupid about IDE and AHCI. You can't easily switch between them without editing the registry or reinstalling.

Anyway, your freezing issue. Have you overclocked anything? I had an unstable overclock for a while and suffered from what you have described. Doesn't matter what it is, really: CPU, northbridge, RAM... All of them can cause instability.

Yes, it is really stupid.

No I haven't overclocked anything. Everything is set to auto settings, since I'm no hero in overclocking actually.

A good friend of mine will give me a proper Windows 8 installation cd today, the problem yesterday was that when I have installed Windows 8 and it reboots. When the load/splashscreen of Windows 8 with the white dots should load, the screen remains black and doesn't continue (waited 15 minutes on the black screen)

I really think its incompatibilty with the SSD and the motherboard on the AHCI setting. I have read several threads on adding AHCI drivers during installation, but this failed or I didn't do it properly. Anyone had this same problem?

Thanks for your replies!
