Took me several tries to get AHCI to enable after installation. Been going for several months now though.

check this out...no raid0, just one 840 pro:

So which is it? RAPID mode, software hack, picture editing skillz, or a PCIe SATA card and overclocked PCIe bus? Because that last can be done, and yes, it does seem like fun.

RAPID is activated,...is this normal? is it a false reading? I mean, I'm happy, but should i be ecstatic or not? Prior to activating RAPID, speeds were definitely at spec: 520/490.

I migrated from old ssd to 840 pro using the disk, updated firmware from Samsung, optimized through magician, and activated RAPID.

Thanks for mentioning all the other ways of speeding things up, but isn't anything over 500 capped because of the throughput of sata 3 6g? Tell me more about the sata 3.2 express options. Is it available on mobos yet???

And I researched pcie cards(which still didn't pull this kind of bench), and even posted earlier about it, but no one responded. Guess i don't need it now with these numbers?!!

Nah, that's normal for RAPID. It's a RAM cache, and RAM is fast. It only really affects benchmarks.

I don't think hacking benchmarks or editing a picture is going to help your speeds. tongue.gif I think Unit Igor brought up the overclocked PCIe card? SATA Express isn't out yet, but M.2 is: up to four lanes, PCIe 2.0, so 2000MB/s in both directions.

PCIe cards are usually not great for primary system drives. The SATA controllers used tend to be mediocre in general. They're excellent for data storage.

My dad just bought a 120 GB Samsung EVO for his 4-5 year old DELL system, whch I plan on using as his OS drive. The onboard SATA controller is SATA II, so I know attaching the drive to it will not fully realize the drive's speed capability. Would it be wise to buy a PCIE SATA III card and attach the drive to it instead of the onboard SATA II controller? If so, any suggestions on which PCIE card to buy?

EDIT: I should have done this before posting but I did some quick research and the concensus seems to be that I'm better off just using the SATA II onboard port.

Unless you are wanting to bench, SATA II will be fine for general use.

Thanks Bradley, I'll stick with the onboard SATA II, especially since my dad thought his system was fast enough for him before I convinced him that moving to an SSD would make a huge difference.

I want to know how Unit Igor is getting speeds of R-8000+ and W-9000+? From an M4 128GB?

But only 1000+/1000+ with 840 Pros in Raid0?

Instead of talking(typing) across Unit Igor appealing to any outsider , why just not simply ask Unit Igor , girls do that !
