[Official] Samsung SSD750/830/840/850 Owners Club - Page 550

All my Samsung SSDs.
128gb 830
128gb 840 Pro
500gb 850 Evo
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

No issues so far.

Is there any further information about the 750 evo? I have seen already some in a shop but the pricing is awful right now. Worse than the 850 evo and too far away from any cheap Sandisk or OCZ drive.
*dreams of a cheap Samsung 1 TB SSD

Today is the first day I have seen them listed at any retailers in the US. Nothing on the review sites yet so I'm assuming they are still blacked out.

i don't know where this misconception is coming from that SSDs don't heat up, but it's false. SSDs get way hotter than HDDs under load, depending on which type of NAND they use and how fast they are. and what's more important, when SSDs reach certain temperature threshold they start to throttle speeds.

really boggles my mind how new cases are manufactured with SSD mounts in tight spaces behind mobo and such without any airflow whatsoever. mad.gif

How bad of an idea would it be to RAID0 a 840 EVO with a 830 (both 256gb).

I have 2 830's and a 840 EVO all 256GB but the one of the 830's is in my laptop and the other together with the 840 EVO in my desktop and I don't reallt feel like swapping them out lol.

And before you guys ask, I don't care about data loss on the RAID array if it fails since it's just games and "unimportant" data and i have a Macrium Reflect image of the OS with most of the games on it anyway.

Btw, one of the 830's, the one in my desktop, has 122.8TB of writes on it and is still on perfect health and it has no overprovisioned cells used according to Magician.

The other one is on 11.9TB and also on perfect health.

The 840 EVO is on 25TB written and also on perfect health.

Funny how my old Agility 3 drives died at barely 4TB.. tongue.gif

I had 850&830 in Raid0, it was fast and nice n stuff, but sometimes I got OS lagging when fully utilized those speeds (or something), ex. when installing games on Steam. So I wouldn't recommend it to be OS drive, for something else, sure why not.

Thanks, but they will be for my OS drive and I don't really want lag of any sort.

I am happy with the speeds now anyway since installing games on Steam goes lightning fast even on the 830 and transferring Fallout 4 from the 840 EVO OS drive to the 830 gave speeds of well over 300 MB/s transfer anyway.

Will I need to update the firmware on my 850 Pro after I install windows? I'm going to be installing with a Windows 8 disk then I'm going to be upgrading to Windows 10, then I'm going to reset and do a clean install of Windows 10 before I download Windows updates then drivers.
