On that board the 1st PCIe slot is GPU if you don't run M.2. Shud you run M.2, it goes in 3rd slot and you lose access to SLi/Xfire. But you have to find the option to open the 1st slot lanes for M.2 and to close it should you have issues with your software package. You would also have to return the GPU to 1st slot status.

How is that possible if the M.2 PCIe x4 slot uses SATA lanes instead of CPU lanes? That wouldn't make any sense to put the GPU in a different slot other than the first one.

The M.2 uses the SATA express lanes which tie in with PCIe lanes iirc. I'm no expert on the issue. That's just simply how the Gamer PRO is setup. wink.gif

As far as I know, all ASUS z99 and z170 boards are also tied in to PCIe slot 1 and slot 2. I could be wrong since I don't have a ton of experience with them. But they are SATA3 as far as I know so they shouldn't throw SATA2 results. thinking.gif

Now for some benchmarks....
Thanks Asus for not updating your drivers (pretty sad considering it was released nearly a year ago).

BTW magician 4.9 is no longer the newest version. 5.0 is released
The interface is nice but seems to have alot less options, just noticed there is no option for setting OP rolleyes.gif oh and manual trim & windows optimization is absent as well. I just hope there will be an option for updating firmware when it becomes available.
Not sure if 5.0 will notify when a new version becomes available but there is no option to check from the ui any longer

I have gone back to 4.9 I have found that Magician 5.0 slows the overall systems performance down on windows 10 and 7.

Yeah I'm seeing a performance hit as well with the new Magician. I recently reinstalled windows and got the latest version on to see load times increase and general sluggishness. Even after tweaking windows 10. I have a 128GB 850 Pro as a boot drive and a 500GB 850 EVO as a gaming/storage drive. Even with RAPID mode enabled it seemed to make no difference. And yeah the new version has basically no features at all. Does anyone have a reliable download link for the older version that had all the system features?
Peace

Why not to get rid of the whole program? I used to use it, but now on windows 10 it feels useless, so haven't used it a while.

Well the RAPID mode works with the system ram to create a cache/buffer to enhance I/O. But now things are slower with this new update.

I have an 840 Pro with original firmware (never updated out of box). Does it make any sense to update firmware and if so, which one is good (or which one to avoid)? Thanks

My philosophy is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If your SSD is working just fine, there is no need to update the firmware. Keep in mind that the latest firmware for anything isn't always the greatest.
