That's my thinking under my rock. Just seeing if there is any known consensus out from under (e.g. vastly improved speeds, etc.) I havnt noticed any slowing down, but, I havnt ran any tests in a while. Granted this isnt a EVO type sitch thumb.gif

Hi guys. I was hoping to be able to join thus club today with proof a samsung 850 evo 250gb and a 1tb drives, but a certain event has not allowed me to be able to acquire the 1 tb drive. I purchased the 1 tb 850 evo ,from my local bestbuy store, for $350 (price matched with amazon). Within a 20 minute time span of driving home and integrating the drive into my desktop, i was left with a very horrifying surprise: a 110 gb samsung 750 evo ssd. I was so shocked that the 1tb 850 evo ,that i had just purchased, was reported by the os (crystal disk info and device manager) to be a 120gb 750 evo that i checked the reported serial number of the ssd with the sticker. to my surprise, the serial numbers were completely different, and the sticker had looked like it was haphazardly placed on the drive. My attempt to return it to the same best buy store ,almost within the same hour, had left me with a result of being refused for an exchange, and being forced to attempt to return the drive to manufacturer because it looked like i had tampered with the drive. what am i suppose to do? will Samsung treat me the same way as the best buy employees did? do i have to pay for shipping? please help...

P.S sorry for the long anecdote, but this is the first time i have ever been in such a predicament.

That's god awful way to treat customers @ bestbuy.
Please run Samsung Magician and let it verify the serial number. Hopefully the drive itself is atleast genuine 750 and not a fake too.

Did the drive come in a retail box? If so retail boxes have seals. When opened it can no longer be closed without leaving a mark that it had been opened. All retail drives should come unopened. There is no reason for reseller to open the box expect for maybe putting the drive on a shelf behind the glass for show but there are dummies for that purpose too.

The drive did come in a completely sealed retail box, which is why i was so shocked that the model number/ serial number sticker had appeared the way it did. I immediately assumed someone had probably tampered with the product and resealed it at the store...but i just dont know at this point. It was even retrieved from the high securely locked shelf that had required additional personnel. I am going to attempt an exchange at the other local bestbuy store, and hope they run samsung magician or crystal disk info as proof that i did not have a samsung 750 evo before hand and tried a bait and switch (i mean c'mon i have 0 host writes).

I had a couple guys come in after buy 850 EVO 1tbs at Best Buy complaining about them only reporting as 120gb. Sometimes 850 EVO 120 and 750 EVO 120.

Called Samsung about it, they told me to go back to Best Buy and return them. Samsung can't do anything because the unit has been tampered with and they've been getting alot of complaints about this same issue about Best Buys across the US. They said Best Buy has to take them as they have been tampered with.

I brought up the possibility of manufacturing error, but they said its not possible as higher capacities are manufactured and packaged in a different facility than the lower capacities.

Thanks for telling me that, i kind of glad i am not the only case. This executive store manager at the local best buy i went to made it seem as if i was the only case for this. He said ",errors never happen within the packaging process. There has never been a sealed product sold in my 12 years that had a different product inside of it than what it was being sold as. From what i see, you have tampered with the device, and are attempting to get a better product." I contacted samsung to begin the rma process, and it is exactly as you stated. In fact, they are putting a notice on all rma's for the samsung 850 evo series ,at this moment, if it was sold through best buy directly. I am going to attempt to get the product i am owed after i receive the email from the samsung rep.

+rep to both of you guys for helping me out in my time of need.

What a jerk that manager was, he is either lying or that haven't just happened to him. But I once got 700w corsair power supply inside of 850w box and I was like what the ffff. Luckily returning it to back to store went nicely and I got new one with correct stuff inside.

That's seriously messed up and heinous. How does BB management explain this phenomenon happening only at the chain stores and not online or at competitor stores? If this is how they treat their customers then I will put them into the same category as other nefarious companies and won't be buying from them again. One or two stores within spitting distance I can see. A nationwide epidemic??? sozo.gif

If you bought it with a credit card cannot get satisfaction, call your card's number, explain the situation, and ask them to hold payment.

Good luck. And never buy anything from Best-Buy again.
I bet Best buy has a warehouse thief who is pilfering drives and swapping them out on the cheap to cover his tracks. Either that or it's a company wide epidemic. It's not that diffdifficult to peel the seals and replace them and reshrink the small packaging plastic either. Wouldn't surprise me one bit that someone is supplementing their income at the expense of a company's reputation or their customers' expense. It just sucks that BestBuy doesn't see this for what it is. They should at least send an internal memo to the Chain store Management requesting return data detailing this kind of shenanigans. Hell it could be happening at Samsung, but if the latter were happening in the packaging line then it would be happening to other resellers so I doubt it's at Samsung's end. mellowsmiley.gif
