Thanks falcon26. I didn't expect amd to rate as well as intel in this department, but even for amd these results seemed too low...

Wow! thanks a million Sean for this excellent & detailed & unbelievably fast response thumbsupsmiley.png Exactly what I needed to start making sense of things.

I noticed that as ssd only says "msachi" and it isn't green and has "ok" after it like in other screenshots ppl have been posting, but I was sure I had the necessary drivers installed doh.gif

The question now is how to go about installing the right drivers with the OS already in place. Here's my problem: the download page for this board (rev. 1.2) in the gigabyte webise has a "SATA RAID" section with 4 enteries, however 3 of them are for pre-install and only one which isn't. The one which isn't for pre-install is called: "Gigabyte SATA2 Driver" (that's the one which I already installed). That said, there is another driver on the list that's called: "AMD SATA AHCI Driver (Preinstall driver, press F6 during Windows* setup to read from floppy)", which seems like the relevant candidate but how do I go about intalling it if windows is already up and running? sorry if this is a noob question, but installing/uninstalling drivers always gets me totally confused tiredsmiley.gif

Could you please help me with specific instructions on what needs to be done to sort this driver business out?

PS I figured it was the upgrade which messed up the alignment. and, sorry, it's 6.35GB (not MB)... I'll run prime and check that all the power saving features in bios are disabled after the drive issue is sorted. I really hope I don't have to re-install windows again just to fix the driver problem.

Thanks again for the advice, Sean, it's very much appreciated smile.gif

Thanks for the link, man. Downloaded and installed, but still no joy… sadsmiley.gif

I now have the amd_sata driver showing up in the device manager (looked strange it wasn’t called “amd_ahci”, but I googled it and it seemed that amd changed the name at some point and that this driver is supposedly the right one):

Also, checked the bios and disabled anything that even remotely resembled power management.

Ran Prime95 on a single thread, and simultaneously also ran the as ssd benchmark and as you can see the results are very far from great:

To top it all up, on page 53 of this thread (post #522), I discovered that LongRog, who has exactly the same board as me and apparently has the msahci driver – got a decent score without a hitch.

Two things I’ve also noticed:

1. The msahci driver in LongRod’s post (#522) is marked green and has “ok” after – whereas, both the msahci and the amd drivers I have/had installed where in black and didn’t have “ok”

2. Sometimes as ssd shows my firmware version number in full (“CXM03B1Q”) but at other times it shows only part of it (“CXM0”) like in the last screenshot – don’t know if it means anything but I thought I’d mention it.

this whole thing is just getting curiouser and curiouser…

help please?

I would say I joined this club 3 days ago, however I am having a bit of trouble.

Can anyone please help me? This is my first SSD and so far it's not looking good. Here is a thread I made on this forum: http://www.overclock.net/t/1299798/new-samsung-830-256gb-ssd-with-minor-problems

Right Click Desktop > NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL > CHANGE RESOLUTION AND REFRESH RATE 120HZ

this happend to me as well on an intel setup all i had to do was change the refresh rate during the problem. I believe when the lagging occurs it changes the refresh rate to 59hz from 120hz, I am not sure why but maybe the Nvidia Drivers or something.

Upgraded from an Agility 3 64GB. Thought the 830 would bench a little better. Anyways, add me to the list of 830 owners.

Proud to be part of this group! Picked up the 256GB version.

Here's my benchmark:

Toshiba Portege R705-P35 i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40 GHz, 8 GB RAM

Is this a good score? If not, anything I can do to improve it?
