Not signficantly affecting your SSD life cycle, this thread have some useful info.

Will it wear your SSD out sooner, probably, but by the time you feel significant degradation/damage you'd be moving on to a newer SSD anyway(according to the last article quoted in the link it won't happen in the realistic life span of a good new SSD).

It is like saying will Overclocking reduce my CPU life span? the answer would be yes, but would you really care when the lifespan goes from 12 year to 6-10? By that time your CPU would have been obsolete and need to be replaced anyway.

If I have the extra cash I might consider getting an 840 pro or 830 256GB(if its price drops low enough) sometime soon and ditch the plan of an internal HDD to compliment my 830, since my case(R4) have room for 2 SSD's on the back of the mobo panel and I removed all 8 HDD cages to maximize airflow.

840 offers a boost in write(400->520mb/s I believe) but more significantly it offers top of the line 4K random write(email/web browsing etc) whereas 470/830's 4K write in reviews have always been bottom of the barrel level.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/solid-state-drive-work-tests,3064-6.html

Here is the 512GB(like 830, the 256 & 512 will have identical stats except volume) reviewed at SSD reviews.

I'll RAID my 830's when my RAM ships in, then upgrade to RAID 840's down the line.

So if anybody wants to wait to see how it goes, let me know.

Trim IS supported on OROM 11.5 and above with IRST in RAID 0 arrays.

What is the latest Firmware for the 830 now? Could I join the club? I have a 128GB model in my HP Probook. I can post a SS of AS SSD later on.

Install Samsung Magician and check it out(it have a auto-update firmware after you give permission feature), I bought mine in August and it already came with the latest firmware.

Looks fine, the 128GB model don't sequential write as fast as a 256 or 512 model so that's to be expected.

Mine plugged into the Intel SATAIII port without RST:

Is it true that some member's have been reporting better performance without RST drivers?
Just purchased the 256 gb model since newegg had it for 169 3hrs only. but since I'm stuck with sata 2 for a while what speeds will I see with this drive? probly should have waited for a MB & cpu upgrade first but couldnt pass on the price.
