How does this compare to the Crucial M4 or Intel 320 series? I'm debating if I should get a 64gb SSD.

The difference b/w the two is so miniscule...get the one which is a better deal.

M4+830 = Top performance

Intel 320 = More GB for the price usually...but also slower.

The article linked above says that the Samsung is usually faster, but I either way, I probably wouldn't see the difference.

you probably wouldnt notice a difference, however it seems samsung rates higher in customer satisfaction and in other various tests.

Samsung 830 128GB

Test results on a MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM, 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo

Black Magic Disk Speed test
201.7 MB/s Write
252.7 MB/s Read

Custom rig with i7 920 D0, 6GB ram, no overclocking
MOBO: EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1
RAM: 6GB Corsair dominator
Proc: i7 920 D0
BIOS has been updated to latest version

3x Samsung 830 128GB
Fresh install of Windows 7 x64
both processor and ram set to factory defaults (not overclocked). Not sure if this will be a factor in HD performance. These are SATA 6 drives but I don't see it being a BIG issue when using with SATA 3 ports.

But when using AS SSD benchmark on the 3x Samsung, here's what I get:

Seq Read 552.79 Write 574.66
4k Read 19.25 Write 54.77
4k-64Thrd Read 474.25 Write 272.41
Acc Time Read .107 Write .068
Score Read 547 Write 385
1218

I'm a little disappointed or maybe expected more since I originally had 2 Samsung 470 in RAID 0 that performed very close to what I got with the 3x Samsung 830.

Pretty good! Well here's my before optimization:

507

After:

497

biggrin.gif For full disclosure, I also updated my Portege's BIOS to version 3.50 between benching. Before BIOS update, no SATA III. Officially I don't think my laptop's supposed to have SATA III functionality but who knows, I didn't read the full BIOS release. Not complaining regardless!

So I just finished running the clone disk on Norton, and now I have two boot disks. When I selected the 830 in my BIOS, it told me there wasn't a boot partition present, or something like that. So I used the Windows install CD to repair the boot sector. Now I can boot into it, but I have two Windows installs to choose from.

Which is fine, except my old SSD is the C:\ drive, and my Sammy is S:\. Does anyone know how to swap the drive letters? Am I doing anything wrong?
