I'm assuming that is your laptop scores with the 830? I feel better now seeing your scores.. In my Probook I see low 4k read scores as well. Now I know that it's normal for a laptop.

Here's mine...

I think you can improve your score a little bit.. On a laptop make sure you have the power mode in high performance and it's plugged it. Also you should install Intel RST driver instead of MS one. Do those things and run it again.

Also, you can run 1 thread of prime 95 during the benchmark. That should help with 4k reads/writes too.

Just to get the clock speed up to top gear?

yep, works for all my systems and others i've suggested it to as well. AS SSD doesn't put any system load really so everything is still running like it is idle during the bench mostly.

I'm curious as to why you would want to know that.

Surely using an SSD through USB would defeat the purpose of having the SSD in the first place.

Hi all. So Amazon has the 256GB 830 on sale for $170 but it doesn't come with an upgrade kit. I would like to get this SSD for my desktop but I don't have any cloning software. I have SATA III cables and I can mount the drive just fine, but is there a way I can clone my current hard drive to the SSD for free so I don't have to spend extra on the upgrade kit? If I do I'd have to pay about $200 instead of $170.

Also, could I use the laptop upgrade kit on my desktop and just clone the hard drive via the usb 3 port on my motherboard? It should work just fine even though it's being called a 'laptop upgrade kit' correct?

Thanks.

Plenty of good free cloning software out there http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-drive-imaging-program.htm#clonezillaanchor
Could even just use the built-in imaging tools/backup in Windows 7. Tho that'd require a second drive to store the image on.
