OK, thanks! My Lynnfield has handled pretty much everything I'd thrown at it, but I guess this is the first motherboard bottleneck I've hit. Well, at least now I have a 'legitimate' reason to justify a processor upgrade in the future. tongue.gif

1) It's connected through one of the native intel SATA II connections rather than the Marvell SATA III connection.
2) It's a two year old P55 chipset mobo.
3) It's being recognized as a SCSI drive? This didn't happen until the second or third reboot of the system, i.e. after I'd installed the motherboard/sata drivers per sean's guide.

Thats pretty good for SATA II. Is it a laptop or your sig rig? Either way Sean taught me a cool trick to run one thread of prime 95 to kick the CPU in high gear while AS SSD runs.

I am joining the club. Just bought Samsung 830 128GB from Amazon. Next week I'll be officially in the club.

http://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7PC128B-WW/dp/B0077CR60Q

It's only $69.99 for 128GB, if anyone want to get one

Sig rig. This is my first "major" upgrade since I built it in 8/10. The other upgrade was this spring when I added a BD-R drive and replaced all the case fans with Cougars.

I'm not completely performance focused (e.g. I put the desktop in High Performance power mode, but lowered the CPU minimum down to 5%, and kept C-States on in my BIOS - if my PC is idling I prefer to take advantage of my CPU's power saving features. Every watt-hour counts!)

this is exactly what i've done yesterday, put the newly ordered 830 in my p55 mobo, using sata ii. performance score is in exactly the same ballpark 500~520. just too cheap to upgrade the mobo at the moment, and mainly just wanted to do away with the noise my regular ide drive made. what a difference. congratulations on the ssd mate.
