I think I've cut the post down as much as possible but I will have another look next time I reboot to make sure I didn't miss anything. I expect to be able to get boot times in the region of 20-30 seconds on windows 8 as I used to get 35 second boots on windows 7 with a few startup apps enabled.

Grabbed a 830 256GB on sale from Amazon and Installed the enterprise 90-day evaluation version of Windows 8 on it to test applications and setting before I move to Windows 8.

running on a p8z68 v-pro w/ the modified BIOS that has the new option rom and off the SATA III port and her are my results :

I installed the Samsung SSD Magician in compatibility mode and ran the OS optimizations and I have about 86GB used when I tested it .

Boot to Windows 8 seems pretty fast but I use to already boot into windows 7 off a 2 500GB drive RAID-0 in about 30 seconds so now I'm trying to finds games to test to see how the load have improved.

So far Guild Wars 2 is slightly faster but Total War 2 :Shogun is still slow loading but at lease it isn't the drive holding it back and I really happy with the drive overall.

So I've recently bought a Samsung 830 128 GB for my old PC.. as it's only a nForce 750i motherboard it only supports SATA II and no AHCI, so I'm currently running it in IDE mode.

Here are my results, is there any way I could get it faster without buying a PCIe card (as the motherboard only has PCIe x1 it's pointless)

Would reinstalling Windows 8 and putting the motherboard into RAID mode make it any better? or will I have to deal with it and just wait till I upgrade my motherboard/cpu/ram.

I'd just like to add that I have followed Sean's Windows 8 SSD install guide and done the optimisations.

Thanks!

Edit - Installed Samsung Magician and this comes up,

I bought Samsung 830 Series 128GB last weekend & installed windows.
When i checked with HD sentinel pro, Health status is only 99%. [Wierd, my 2 year old F3 1TB Hdds still showing 100%]

IS there anything wrong? I can't find a proper solution on net.
Kindly help.. please see the screenshot.

I get this message every time I load SSDLife. Is it standard for all 830 owners? I thought I was meant to be able to see more info on the drive?

"The disk is healthy!
Unfortunately, its not possible to display accurate drive health and lifetime values, since your model of SSD does not provide detailed wear out information
"

I only get other info like size, powered on, work time, trim supported and enabled, and total data written.
