Yup. Static. I've turned on a computer from static before. Also had lightning hit a street down the road turn on my computer before. It's never caused me any issues. As long as your PC is plugged in and thus grounded (or at least here in the UK, all the sockets are grounded and are all 3-pin), there should never be any issues. Apart from your PC turning on when you don't want it to.

I'm sure someone could make some form of cat collar that has anti-static properties - hence no more static kitty's.

Try putting one cat inside of the compter case to equalize the static charge....thumb.gif

When I woke up I had cat poo all over my face and I think some went in my mouth a bit. Ever since then I've nevered liked cats. anyways cheers.

this is something i would NEVER tell ANYONE. i dont care if we know who you are or not. its totally possible to find you at a meet-n-greet.

Sounds like either the motherboard isn't grounded properly or there's a bare wire on your power switch touching the inside of the case. The motherboard typically grounds through a screw that is surrounded by metal on the motherboard and goes into the case without any special protection between them, and then the case is grounded through the PSU.

I might be horribly wrong. Last time I had this problem, it was with a motherboard that actually had a short wire that ran to the case of the PSU. But that was a Gateway, and a very long time ago.

Static shocks that jump from person to person, or cat to person, are anywhere from 300 to 3000 volts, but very low amperage and wattage, so you shouldn't have to worry about any damage. Just freaky cat poltergeist moments.

It could also be a failing PSU I suppose. Static from your cat may only be jumping because of a latent charge already present in the case that shouldn't be there.
