Is a switch to Intel worth it?

I currently have $1000 to spend on whatever and my current Sig rig is annoying me because of the CPU bottleneck it would impose if I got another GTX480 so I was debating on switching to Intel but I'm not sure if it's worth it. If not tell me what "you" think I should get to enhance my computer. thumb.gif

InB4whatdoyoudoonyourpc... I use my computer gaming/internet mostly but an occasional Binge of 3D editing is in order from time to time.

i have a 1100t @ stock clocks and a friend has about the same but with a 2600k
i do notice he has better performance on the gpu(we booth have a xfx 6870be) and overall feeling is better of the system.
so if you can afford it i would sell youre current setup and change it to intel

You see thats what evryone tells me but my friend who has an Intel 2500K tells me that for what I do with the computer I shouldn't spend the money on switching and that the performance gains are marginal for what I do... Ive always said that I wanted a good rig that will last me years and years so I built what I thought would be the best and then I snap into reality and realize that AMD is way behind the game and that my efforts were in vain because of my choice.

HOWEVER:
Is spending the money really that worth it? I mean with one GTX480 I can max almost anything on the market and get really good frames...and I havent even overclocked it yet. BF3 gets 50+ average on ultra and Crysis DX11/texture pack gets constant 60. But would Intel really improve my FPS with this one card let alone provide the extra year or two of life to my rig?

if it's not broken don't fix it.

Most people here will say yes.

But i ask you this: What can you not do with your system RIGHT NOW that an intel system can?

Nothing. The intel system might get you 10% better frames, big whoop.

Save your money. You have a solid system there, no reason to change it.

just put your current rig on water and save yourself $$$$
I agree that compared to your current system, it prob wont be that great of a jump. at least not enough to spend a grand on imo.

If I managed to sell this rig I suppose then I would switch to Intel but for now I guess I'll work on ironing the kinks in the storage configuration then sell it off.

If you're going to SLi 480s then go with Intel. AMD processors will bottleneck the 480s in SLi.

Wait, you get 50+ fps average on ultra in BF3...?

Completely worth it.

Get the New LGA 2011 Socket, if ya choose to.
