Is a switch to Intel worth it? - Page 5

980x? I don't know man. I mean, afaik, you buy it because you want to, and not because you need the extra cores. For 600$ I'd rather get a 3930K.

Make a poll. That will summarize everything thats been said here in a few short numbers. tongue.gif

IMO: The jump from our "old tech" would be AMAZING. So I would say yes definitely switch. I have no real opinion on Bulldozer because my friend didnt want to buy the 8 core rolleyes.gif oh well.

EDIT: Have fun with your new 3960X! biggrin.gif

Very good point there sir, although having a $1,000 piece of equipment in your computer would make you feel like a boss wouldn't it. tongue.gif

The FX processors are a major fail, in comparison to my current processor the differences in real world performance are null, hell even the SLI/crossfire Bottleneck is still there from what I've heard. Also the poll Idea would work but meh, not a really a good point to do that this far into the thread. :/

Worth in money? No.

Worth in performance? Yes

Basically, if you're willing to hash out around $350 for a new i5 2500K and Z68 motherboard, then go for it. Your minimum framerates and scaling will be much better, and you get benefits of SRT and Virtu to get a snappier system (If you also invest in a SSD) and faster video encoding.

No wait, I have to draw a line here. Buy anything you want, but buying something just because it was more expensive at launch and not faster than something new (3930K) is something I can't recommend. Perhaps I have misunderstood, but unless you can get a good 1366 mobo for dirt cheap I wouldn't do it. Well, personally, I wouldn't do it regardless of the circumstances.

It all depends on you, To be honest, If I were you, I'd make the switch.. OR Wait for Ivy bridge. I'll leave you with some food for thought.

Wait for Ivy Bridge, currently a X6 Phenom II is more than capable of keeping up. I get around 80-100fps average on BF3 with all settings on ultra, no aa or motion blur.

My CPU gets around 80% load with the two overclocked 6950's around 75-90% load.

Sure my phenom II is bottlenecking my crossfired cards, but I'm not going to use up $400+ dollars to get my extra 10-25% performance when my current rig is able to handle the game just as I want.

Sure my next upgrade will most likely be to an Intel platform. But currently it isn't worth it. I'd keep waiting to see something even better than our current sandybridge beasts.

Whoa Whoa slow down there, I am new to Intel the lest time I messed with Intel was back during the P4 days I don't know what's better by what percentage. Based on your reaction I'd say no Gulftowns for me. D:

I take CPU benchmarks that compare Frame rates for games without telling me what GPU they were running with a very I mean very small grain of salt...

Well, I'd say, if you can sell your current CPU, Motherboard and PSU for a good price, then I'd say it will be worthwhile.
