How to flash the bios

Thread Starter
I've been having stanability problems and I googled to see if anyone has been having the same problem as me. As it turns out the bios is crap and if I update it should fix my problem. Here's my problem, I don't have a floppy or any removable drive that I can use to flash my bios with. Is there any other way or do I need to go digging around the basement for an old floppy?

You can flash your BIOS through Windows mate with such programs as Winflash. If you check the ASUS site for your motherboard downloads they will provide you with a flashing tool to be used within windows.

Well if this is the case and they dont offer another alternative then yes it will be best to get a Floppy however this kind of task can also be done from a Bootable CD with Floppy emulation so to speak.
you don't need a bootable cd enterprise just a regular blank with the rom on it.

you can flash the bios using a blank cd. burn the bios rom onto a blank, reboot the computer and hit alt + F2 on boot up and it will flash from the cd. You may have to rename the bios rom file though as later revisions from asus will usually carry the revision number in the name and the auto update will look for the original name. (when you do it and if the name of the file is wrong, it will say "searching for xxxxxx.rom". reboot, rename the rom to the right name (don;t remove the .rom end piece!) reburn it to the cd and do above steps again.

very simple, don;t know why people would want to use a floppy and I agree that flashing in windows is not a good idea.

its worked with every asus board I've had in the last two years.

Asus has an auto update feature in its bios (all asus boards of the last two years).

1. download the newest bios

2. burn it to a blank cd

3. reboot computer and hit alt+ F2 keys

4. it will say "searching for xxxx.rom (bios rom name). if the name doesn't match whats on the cd, write down what it is asking for

5. reboot computer go back to the file you downloaded and rename it to match what you wrote down

6. burn it to the same cd

7. reboot and go through above steps again. it will find the proper file off the cd and update automatically after you hit alt+f2. follow its instructions including a reboot. go back into the bios and redo you settigs, save and done
