AMD 990fx vs 970 Mobos

Thread Starter
Hey guys, the time has finally come, from returns from Christmas this year I am getting about $100 twards a new mobo, if i stretch and add some of my own money I can make it to about 150 or so.

My dream board is this one but it is clearly out of my price range, now the only real reason I want this board is for one the color shceam goes with the one i want and secondly 12+2 phase power and thirdly x16 PCI-e x2

now the one that I was concidering getting that is in my price range with newegg's 10% off mobos deal right now is this Gigabyte board it is nice but it is only a 970 chipset and it's PCI-e's are only x16, x4

I do overclock and I do also plan on getting either an 8150 or pile-driver (or whatever AMD does for their next AM3+ chips) in the future aka when I can afford it, my main question is will I notice a big difference between these boards and are there any others that I am overlooking that are as good as the ASRock board?

Thanks All!

EDIT: wow yea totally over looked this one 990fx, 8+2, and x16, x16, x4, x4

Take a look at the ASrock Extreme 4. About $150 and has essentially nearly the same features as the Fatal1ty.

It's got a 8v +2 power phase. 2 extra SATA connectors.

ASRock 970 Extreme4 is about $110, 990X chipset (dual 8x8x cfx and SLI) 4+1., but relatively high quality.

something to look into

I know the quality is good but I want to get as far away from 4+1 as i can...

i'd take transistor quality over quantity, but whatever.

other than costing $40 more, the UD3 is a great board.

pretty much the only gigabyte AM3+ board that has a bios that is any good

but aren't the other asrock boards built with the same transistors but more of them? so therefore the quality is the same but there are simply more making it better?

The extreme 4 has all the Xfast technology, UEFI bios and Turbo UCC feature. The only main difference really is that it's missing a few small features of Fata1ty.
Premium gold caps. the lot. And it doesn't have Johnathan wendels ugly face in the UEFI!
