Quake 4 and Prey graphics glitches

I've noticed during play of both Prey (the downloaded demo) and Quake 4 (full retail) they are shimmering effects running up the screen when I walk forward every three or four seconds. The effect is the whole way across the screen and about an inch high and usually runs upwards. It would appear there is a problem updating the screen from the game. I've turned down all graphical effects and toned down the resolution but its still present. I've removed my graphics card and reinstalled it but the effect is still there. It is far more noticable in Quake than Prey. Its not present in Call of Duty 2 or Serious Sam 2. Any advice?

Turn on Vsync. It'll totally fix the issue. =)

Its just a problem with the games me and my friend had the same issues.

Excellent. I tried V-Synching Prey but it didn't seem to have an effect, then I noticed that my screen resolution was set lower in the game than the screen resolution set in my monitor options menu. A quick change in Prey's graphics options and its now perfect! Quake seemed to fix itself yesterday for some reason, I think I must have upped the resolution on that too. I had lowered the res on both games to try and get an improved frame rate but I've since OCed the card I'm using and both games are running at high graphics settings with my max resolutions like a dream. PC gaming is a very tricky business, but very rewarding once you do get things right!

I've noticed that shimmering effect too playing Prey. Next time I play I guess I'll try turning V-sinc on, haven't had to do that before.
