Yeap, and then the fact that there aren't any 27" 1080p IPS panels currently on the market leads a lot of people to believe that it'll be 1440p.

If that's the case, expect a solid thousand or more price tag.

I actually am holding on on getting one of the Samsung 120hz until we get more info on this.

We don't have ANY real information on this at all, input, output, actual hz,

All we have is 3D, IPS, and 27"

We'll known come CES.

Can't wait.

This would be great.... if native 120hz. I have never used 3D with my monitor, but I won't go back to 60hz. The fluidity of gaming in 120hz is unmatched for fast shooters (QuakeLive / Urban Terror).

Well, here's a few things we can divine from what we have been told.

1: 3D almost definitively means a 120HZ panel. While this does not confirm TRUE 120HZ, there is not a 3D monitor on the market without 120HZ tech, and given that they have a 120HZ tech in the thing, there's very little chance that they'd squander a high end panel not actually having it be 120HZ. Seriously, that's money down the drain.

2: Likely 1440p. How did I diving this? Well, they describe it as "Super Resolution" in the announcement (not just the article) and there are no currently existing 27" 1080p ISP panels. This doesn't mean they couldn't make a new IPS panel specifically for this. Then again, (for what little it's worth) there's been no news of the production of 27" 1080p IPS panels.

3: It's going to be Display Port only. Why you ask? Well HDMI and even DVI-D lack the throughput to carry a 120hz 1440p signal. This is true assuming either of the above are true.

So here's hoping it's as awesome as it sounds.

Reasons none of the above might be true:

LG E2770V: Originally announced as 27" IPS, came out, TN panel. 1080p

Maybe it took longer to produce the panels than planned and they only just not got them?

Either way, looking forward to seeing it.

Wow that looks great but is there anything special about IPS over LED?

I just got the S23A950D and about to use it, I believe it is the best monitor out so far biggrin.gif

Its hard to get 120Hz out of IPS. Also 1440p @ 120Hz IPS or what ever technology its not possible right now because we are limited to Dual link DVI which support 1920x1080 @ 120Hz or 2560x1600 @ 60hz. If you have 2560x1600 @ 120hz it would need a Quad Link DVI. it might be possible if it uses 2 x Dual Link DVIs from GPU but not too sure. Also driving 2560x1600 @ 120Hz would require crazy amount of GPU power. Kind of like waiting 2 generation of GPU to play current game.
