A quick thought if you want to look at profits. Lets look at AMD and Intel for Q2 2011 since they are both trying to go after the same investors.
AMD 1.5 b net rev, 61m net income, 4% net profit
Intel 13.1b net rev, 3.2 bil net income, 24% net profit
Here are some news quotes for 2nd quarter,
source
"SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Advanced Micro Devices Inc. finds itself in an unfortunate position heading into its third-quarter earnings report Thursday."
"Last month, AMD cut its third-quarter outlook because of manufacturing problems that prevented AMD from making as many of a new type of chip called "Llano" as it wanted."
"AMD also is trying to set a new tone after replacing its CEO over concerns that AMD isn't growing fast enough."
So now they have what looks like a good card, their new management is looking to maximize profits. This is just business 101. You cant just list profits alone as a real outlook on a company. If you want to attract investors would you buy stock from a company making 24% net profit or 4%? You would look at a lot more than just this info though.
So what I am saying is this, you have a new CEO who says, look our net profit sucks, we have a new product with a competitive advantage, lets take advantage and make money.
