Those are good, but I don't like how they run at 1.65v as on SB that's the supposed max voltage you're supposed to run.... ever. I like the 1.5v kits cause there's more room for OC if you wish without risking damaging the SB memory controller.

True but they can actually run lower at like 1.58v or maybe i should go with these

Like others have said, the % of people that ONLY game on their PC is very small I would think. Even then, this is a enthusiast forum, so you really can't go by what you see in our rigs and think most others are the same. Future proofing is another big thing I would think and price being so cheap, most just say, why not? Case in point, I just put together a build for my uncle. He doesn't need 2GB much less 8, but I found an 8GB(2x4) kit on the egg of some 1600Mhz Ripjaws for $18 and free shipping(not sure why it was so low, maybe error, but it went through). For that crazy low price I bought two sets even though his MB could only hold 8GB. I may put the other in mine later and my current 1866 set at a lower speed together just to have the 16GB total. I use a lot of RAM though, VM's and video editing eat up a ton. I game a lot and would probably be considered a "gamer" above all else when it comes to what I do with my PC, but I do have use for the 8GB I use and can(and do) easily max it out regularly.

Now for that tiny % that game only and almost nothing else, you are correct. It is pretty much a waste of money if they spent more than $10 on an extra 6-8GB. I see people mention BF3 as well as other examples of something using 4+ GB. The thing is, RAM usage scales with how much memory you have installed with many programs. It will use more, with the more RAM you have. That doesn't mean you need that extra to run BF3 and doesn't mean you will see a performance increase by adding that extra memory. So for the most part, for strictly gaming it is indeed pretty useless.

Those look much better, but now you're back in the 150 range and might as well get the dominators. biggrin.gif

I'll tell you exactly why I got 24Gb of ram, and why a few friends had me upgrade their PCs... because it cost $89.97 for a 24Gb kit! The upgrades are for occasional gamers, extensive photoshop use and marginal personal use.

I personally decided to get 8gb instead of 16gb, as most of the efficient heat sinks on the market block the first memory slot.

Corsair should pay me to work for them biggrin.gif.

They've been out of stock at newegg for a week or so, but CompUSA has them on their site for 5 dollars more per kit, just an fyi.

EDIT: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR not, looks like they're all gone now, too. hm
