I hope they jsut straight up release unlocked Trinity apu's later in 2012. Instead of beating around the bush go ahead and give us what we want from the start. A 4.1ghz Llano with the iGPU overclocked and ram over 2100 mhz cl9 will be a pretty good buy even at $160 if you ask me.
also for Trinity, the pile driver modules should be able to hit a nice frequency. Ill be happy with a 4.7/4.9ghz apu with a good iGPU.

Nothing wrong with the chips, been looking to pick one up to be honest

If only they had L3 cache i'd pick one without a doubt. They're awesome for budget builds though.

well dont lose faith then! They are a smalll mom n pop corporation to the giant that is intel. I am telling you that they are going places with this apu stuff. That is the reason to buy ati, that is the reason to design bulldozer the way they did. Using OpenCL and creating xop, fma4 and other instruction sets it all points towards the future of fusion and apu's. This is just the beginning and it will only get better and AMD already has a huge jump start on Intel. Llano is used in some servers already as I pointed out in another thread I created today. Imagine Trinity with piledriver and a good igpu to go along with it. Will be a beast im telling you

edit: my phenom II x4 840 does not have L3 cache and its not an unlocked cpu but I got it clocked to 4.309 ghz and scored 4.9 on cinebench. I know that isnt that great but it does everything I ask of it. L3 isnt everything. I will sacrifice it gladly for a better budget gaming pc.

L3 cache helps a LOT in BOINC, and CPU-limited games (like SC2). Hell, i plan to get rid of my HTPC's C2D and use a 955 on it.

I do agree AMD is in a darned sweet spot in price/performance. Hell, getting a better iGPU than Intel on a Quad core and cheaper than any Intel offering is darned nice.

I have to agree with that. And the performance scales pretty nicely if you pick up a discrete gpu that's compatible for hybrid crossfire. AHHH what is AMD doing, I jsut hate how they announce a release date and then no releasey frown.gif going to check out that linux site with benchmarks thanks for posting it.

Llano has more L2 cache though, which kind of makes up for it.

Yes indeed. Or actually better yet it will be based on Pile driver which is next generation Bulldozer. The graphics side is not fully known yet though. I looked at the phoronix benchmarks and it looks like they were having issues with the drivers and unable to overclock the iGPU and only get a small modest overclock on the cpu side to 3.6ghz. They must still have some kinks I would assume on the bios/motherboard side and must be waiting to get that all worked out before they release the chips to the public. Kind of expected but no big deal. Id rather them release a fully operational chip than one with so many flaws. Take your time amd but hurry up at the same time!

ps. I wonder how phoronix was able to get a hold of the apu? No other site has a review as of yet. Seems kind of strange if you ask me
