Onboard sound card vs Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I've been wondering if there even is a difference between a onboard sound card and a sound card for around 200 usd. The current motherboard I have right now is the asus p8z68-v gen 3, and I have the Corsair sp2500 speakers. Will a sound card make a huge difference? My friend says not at all, but I'm not really sure. I mean why spend 200 usd if there's no difference?

I would not spend $200 on a single sound card (there are cheaper alternatives like the regular Titanium, or the ASUS Xonar cards) but a discrete sound card is indeed different compared to an integrated one.

I've tried some old but cheap cards (including an old Audigy 2 card) and it throughly beats anything made by Realtek, if you have the right speakers/headphones (with your set you'd have no problems though)

yes. Any~ soundcard is better than onboard. The $200 one is a bit expensive though.
Go Auzuntech (I love my Prelude) or even the X-Fi Gamer edition.
I never quite liked the Xonar, but I know a lot of other people do.
