Laser cut custom case =D [Updated 1/10/12 (final design)] - Page 2

Iv been racking my brain over this for a while and may have a solution but I'd like some ideas from you guys.

The gpu exhaust plate has a little lip that you screw or latch onto in a standard case to provide support for the gpu. This is why the back panel has recessed holes for the I/O and pcie cards.

I dont have a way to secure the gpu at this time since the mobo in my case is flat mounted against the back panel.

How do you think I could secure the gpu without changing how the mono is mounted or adding some intricate latching mechanism, or cannibalizing another case haha?

You may not notice because of the angles and color but the case is actually pretty intricate, I'm excited to finish the file and get it cut out.

Ok I love the concept you got going here but 2 thing you could do. For your gpu issue concerning the pci bracket you could just buy a lian li pc-v351 mobo tray then just design your case around that. To really cut down on size you could move the psu in front of the mobo like the A05N.

Buying a mobo tray is out if the question for me lol, that's too simple. I'm still trying to figure out how to secure the pcie stuff.

And I like how my psu is setup at the moment. It allows for the case to be thin. Moving it infront of the mobo would make it much wider and that's not my goal.

Iv done a bit more work to the case but it slow because I work 2 jobs and go to school.

Right now I just need to decide on what kindof power switch to use. The anti vandal type pushbuttons are neat but are common. I was thinking of a momentary rocker switch.

They make momentary fuel tank rockers that I could wire for use as a power and reset switch. That would kill 2 birds with one rocker and save space allowing for some other cool thing to fit next to it.

The question is, what?

My next question is how should I have the fans run?
Intake up top and exhaust through the rad or intake through the rad and exhaust out the top?

If I can't effectively keep the case cool with it's current design I may wave to change it. From 1 360 to 2 240 rads.

I know the two fans on top will easily bring in or remove more air than the rad fans.

For a somewhat quiet case 20cfm per rad fan (60ish cfm) is all I would expect. Just one of the top fans (provided it's a good fan) should be capable of 70-80 cfm easily creating negative or positive pressure depending on how I run them.

Looking good thumb.gif,
For a simple solution to the GPU problem, get some 15 mil angle, attach it to the case above where the graphics cards stick out and drill some holes in it lining up with the graphics card ones. Either tap the holes or stick a rivet through it for ultimate security thumb.gif

Thanks! I had been thinking of doing something like this, or just hacking off the angle and having holes cut for the connectors. But the way he did it looks to clean. Looks like il be following in his footsteps.
Great ideas there, and ALLOT OF MONEY good god...

Iv got no idea why they do either... its making my life a bit difficult. I cant find any models or dimensions for a 2 slot pci bracket. It would be much easier if I could find the spacing and location of all the holes on the bracket. If nobody can help I suppose I could measure my own but its a pain to take my computer apart.

Having a flush mount gpu plate template would make allot of people happy and clean up the look of allot of custom computers.

Because that's what's on the back of my 480, I don't plan on pitting it under water any time soon if not ever so the stock cooler isn't coming off meaning it takes up 2 slots one to vent the other for the cords.

Sorry, I'm a little drunk still I'm not sure if all that came out right...
