THX is really just gimmicky. It doesnt signify quality, or performance, just that it meets a certain standard, and an obscure one at that as it not consistent.
You should not consider buying a product solely on the fact that it has a THX certification. With that being said, I believe that you could effectively spend your proposed budget far more carefully, and effectively.

I cannot give you advice on the new Recon series of the Creative cards, as they are both too new, and I have not personally heard anything with the use of them. I can however tell you that Asus makes some fantastic sound cards that will give you more than adequate sound compared to your onboard.

To start however, it would be best to know a finite budget, or at least a ball park figure, and what you plan on using the proposed components for. Are you primarily going to be using this setup for movies, or for gaming? Do you want to use this setup for music?

You will find that many people on this forum will recommend the Creative Titanium HD, and the Xonar DX. The Xonar STX is also a widely recommended card for music and such. I recommend looking at all three of these sound cards and see what seems to fit your budget, and needs.

Let me refer you to this guide, as it is well put together, and will show you several different options based on price, and what you plan on using your setup for. http://www.overclock.net/a/most-commonly-recommended-audio-products-guide

THX testing standards for multimedia/computer speakers is non-existant, so I would say it's relatively irrelevant, unless it gives you fuzzy feelings. THX is a (fairly rigorous) performance standard for home theater products. For little computer toys it is little more than just licensing gimmicks.
