Thanks for the info it was very helpful, but unfortunately I already purchased the kit of 16GB 4 x4GB....Most of my gaming is for Flight Sim X or X-Plane 10. If 8GB is the recommended GB, can I use two sticks instead of the 4?

yes

But why, you may as well leave it in there. It will play the same.

To OP: I'd get at least 8GB, i went from 4GB to 16GB and BF3 map changing times have improved almost 3 times faster. (BF3 was literally using 3.92 GB, so changing maps meant paging to my SLOOOOW HDD). I got 16GB because it's cheap now and what's an extra $20 for literally double the RAM? (check out slickdeals for 16GB deals... literally $50...)

Yes, you can use only 2 sticks and if you want, you can even sell the other 2. But having 16GB of RAM won't be detrimental to the performance. It's just recommended because if you're on a tight budget, you should save money and just get 8GB because you will *probably* not need all 16GB

Thank you for your generous input, i'm glad there are options for me to use with this ram kit. I'm waiting for my Cooler Master 922 case to arrive today. Any thoughts on where to shop for a cheap but good HDD and power supply to power my build? Oh and any recommendations for GPU?
